I'm not one to overreact and post garbage on here because I understand how early it is in the year. But this start has been a Game one comeback away from being embarrassing. I get the terrible weather -- but you can only use that as an excuse so much when it comes to the errors. My main concern is the at bats we have been having -- yeah, we mix in some good ones but so many early-in-the-count pop ups and weak roll overs, just non competitive.

Glad it's early so we can get this stuff fixed but it's a tad disappointing to see.

Yeah, it's still early, but so far this Aggie team doesn't look good at all. We are very close to being 3-3 right now against bad teams that are basically supposed to be tune up games.

Earley was the hitting coach all three seasons under POS so I doubt there has been a total restructuring in how the hitters approach ABs.

Edit to add: Now fans see the benefits of that approach. On the other hand I don't recall a lot of putting the ball into play early in counts so far. I'll concede the grind it out 6+ pitch ABs have so far been lacking this season.

Josh Stewart came off the field with leg (knee) pain after a few live pitches yesterday. Leg seems better than an arm but strong legs are important for pitching. Compensating for a leg injury can throw off mechanics which could lead to arm problems down the line. Was suppose to get an MIR today or tomorrow. Have not seen anything beyond that.

Yes, that's what I'm saying. I miss the 6+ pitch ABs and without looking at the stats, they seem to have dwindled down some.

We've had this discussion pretty much every year since Schloss got here. Then the wind starts blowing out of the south and everyone is happy. We would have had a minimum of 2 HRs today and one would have been a grand slam.

I hate it. Every team I played on was a get them over and get them in type team so it's engrained in me. But this is baseball these days outside of the west coast teams for the most part.

Jace has 4 hits on the year. 3 are HRs and the other was at the warning track. He's struck out 7 times. He's going to need to put the ball in play because good things seemingly happen every time he makes contact. I'm curious how long we're going to let Gavin hit out the leadoff spot with, what he's acted like, one good shoulder.

This has been true ever since I started following Aggie Baseball in 2007, the wind kills the ball in February and then carries it to the tracks once it warms up. There's been a lot of balls die this weekend that would be loud home runs in 2 weeks.

Reading preseason headlines and internet sites…

Early, but not #1 team out of the gate. Hitting, fielding, relief pitching all has been meh.

Earley growing pains, but plenty of season to improve.

Looking like the result of hiring a coach that's friends with the players. Sloppy and undisciplined all around. This team doesn't look like a top 8 team to me.

It seems the book is out on us. Cal poly was pounding the zone early and getting ahead in counts and then throwing junk the rest of the at bats

I mean what did you expect? You gave a person a huge promotion to take over the #1 baseball team in the country with zero prior HC experience. This person was also not the #2 guy either.

New HCs have to learn the job as its very different from other jobs as you they were not managing all the functions, image, hiring, recruiting, relationships, budgets, etc. It was a massive risk for A&M to take this approach when they were on the cusp of a national championship but they decided to take it (new coach's success would be an indicator on how good our AD as a result of the gamble). You have to give him some time to see if he can learn on the job (2 years at least and assess performance and how he develops). Most assistants aren't successful making such a big jump so its definitely high risk and they usually start smaller (not the #1 team in baseball) so it's rarely am instant slam dunk situation either. There had to be a reason why the AD / leaders took this risk and it usually takes some time to play out if they are right (still a chance but definitely a gamble).

Not sure why this is a surprise to people. You need funding but more importantly, a great coach to win. You can't just have one of them.

It's pretty clear why they took "the risk". To keep the team together. The players wanted Earley, and if we hired someone else then some of these players would have transferred.

It was to keep the team together. The kids all wanted Earley. Usually not the best idea to let the inmates run the asylum but we were in full panic mode after Schlossnozzle screwed us over.

I'm not saying we're gonna tank. I'm not saying Earley ain't the right guy. BUT, you're not being honest with yourself if you couldn't see some struggles/potential issues with this situation. Like it or not, Schloss is one of the best coaches in the country. Replacing him was always gonna be tough. Replacing him with a first time HC….

Agree with bleh.

Not making excuses but without the weather we have a grand slam and I believe a 2 run home run. We would have won easily.

Biggest concern for me is defense. We look sloppy.

Should be a good test tomorrow night as well. TexSt has legit D1 talent. Bryson Dudley is a stud on the mound, and they have two solid hitters in Farris and Farber. If Bryson starts tomorrow, I expect our bats will be challenged. But I'm ok if they aren't

some of yall obviously have zero experience with baseball, just jumping on the wagon after last years run.

This past weekend the team played in about the worst weather possible friday and saturday for baseball. Not to mention the Tuesday game was cancelled. It is EARLY in the year. This happens to all teams. Let the boys settle and some of yall need to take a deep breath. If the team would've won yesterday the thread never would have popped up. The defense will by fine and the hitting is legit. They were squaring up a ton of balls this weekend that on a normal day would be doubles and home runs.

I thought it was obviously known that he was hired so the players wouldn't leave. Basically keeping the team together was more important than getting an experienced HC
