Saw we're getting dragged on X by a bunch of clowns whining that the players won't be available for interviews after losses. I will admit that is a little strange. Anybody got insight?
Give me the guy who shoots for excellence and fails over the guy who shoots for mediocrity and succeeds.

You can thank Sam Khan for bringing it to everyone's attention.

I do think it is crap though.

Honestly, watching Schott do the press conference after the national title loss was heart breaking. I realize we'll lose 10+ games this year and most will not be as heart breaking as that one, but I'm all for not pressing the players after a loss.

It would be one thing if coaches weren't available but that doesn't sound like the plan. It sounds like coach wants to be the one to answer the questions and take responsibility for it.

When did anyone ever give two ****s about this type of stuff

other than when a mass of juveniles frothing about **** (or whatever condescending moniker they think witty) was able to assemble on places like the rant?

It's pathetic behavior. You're hobby as an adult, presumably with a job and family, is sitting your fat, balding ass in front of a computer decrying the harmless activity of a university's athletic program.

Get a life.

My only comment is money related.
The whole, they're kids, they're heartbroken, they're not in a mental place to sit before the press line of thinking goes right out the window in the NIL world.

If they're just kids and need to be treated like kids then they don't need NIL checks that rival or far exceed what I, what you, what most of us make in a year or more.

If they're cashing checks, then they can answer to the press.

Ok....how much money are the baseball players making on NIL? Do we even know or are we just assuming? And not all of them are making huge NIL checks.

No one knows because those contacts are confidential.

I dont really care either way. I care more about what the coaches think went wrong after a loss than the players responses.

It's not like football where it's one game per week… 4 games a week means 3-1 is a great week so losses aren't as big a deal in the regular season.

Anyone who wants to watch a player interview after a loss needs a therapist. Nothing good comes from those interviews.

Sports are supposed to be entertaining. And if that's entertaining you need help.

Roster total is at or slightly above $2million I believe. I dont have individual numbers, but that is the number that has been floated around a couple times on here.

Sounds like Coach Earley is going to take the blame for our losses and share the glory with the players when we win. I'm all for it.

When you're good, people are going to pick at everything they possibly can. The fact that someone saw that in the fine print on our athletics site (it's since been removed) means they are looking at the fine print on our athletics site.

My son is a D1 JUCO pitcher that has had conversations with P4 programs and holds a few D1 offers. From his conversations with coaches, A&M and t.u. pay the most with every player supposedly get a min of $50K per yr in NIL.

Pretty sure this has always been the case? I don't remember seeing too many, if any, player interviews after losses (save the post season).

Couldn't agree more.
Personally, I don't want tonhear from players after a loss. The coaches are the ones who should take the questions. I'm willing to bet that 98% of reporters have never competed at high level and don't understand what loss means.

Sam Khan is awesome and very kindly and engagingly came to Premium to explain that his question was that across all sports, A&M has become less accessible and more difficult to cover than most other schools.

Pretty reasonable take.

Yiute treating a rumor with zero substantiation because the contracts are only visible to the school and beyond certainty are subject to non-disclosure agreements.

Stop making the claim unless you have seen the numbers. It's just dumb to do so.

Khan is a tool, but hey, if he explains to premium, all good and why those who pay will succumb.

So why did he make a big deal about it? What's the motive? Those in-depth quotes or where a journalist can spin the story off a 'phrase'. What's so important for his lack of journalistic integrity? He'll put this as a feather in his cap of how he fought for journalistic freedom to hear from players. What an idiot.

More ticked that A&M caved vs. stupid post...so external journalists run the program. It should be up to coach if any speaks regardless of the outcome.

Have you ever read any of Khan's articles? He covers A&M incredibly well, and certainly doesn't spin stories based on things players say.

He simply said that we've gotten harder to cover than other schools based on increasingly restricted access. That's not making "a big deal".

At the end of the day, most player interviews are pretty meh.

That being said, A&M is very closed off by most media accounts. It's ok for us as Aggies to question the Athletic Department on this and other policies. As a former recruit once said, I ain't seen no trophies. We should question everything we do (especially given the resources/spending). Blind loyalty and acceptance isn't the way.
