Hoping to see a few things that were characteristics of Schloss's teams. Wishing the best for coach Earley, really think he's a great guy to lead the team.
1. Team never gives up and fights through adversity. Not sure if we ever did, but I know last year it went a very long time before we lost 2 in a row. I think that's a really big sign of a great baseball team. Bouncing back is a huge part of the game as well as fighting until the last out.
2. A consistency to his in game decision making/ managerial philosophy. Don't make decisions as a prisoner of the moment. Schloss made really impactful decisions like pulling pitchers mid at-bat, because his philosophy was to not use a pitcher that didn't have a pitch working whether location or the timing of a batters swing showed they were all over a pitcher's stuff (Schloss could have easily left those pitchers in). He's going to have to make decisions that could decide a game and live with it, but hopefully he makes those decisions because it's what he believes in.
3. Becoming an expert at all parts of the game. If he's going to be a head coach a long time he really needs to learn the pitching side. Understanding how pitchers can be used and developed. Like not using your younger pitchers too much too soon, which may have contributed to Prager's injury.
4. This is icing on the cake, but he's a young coach so... I'd love to see some innovative stuff at some point, but that's really like the pinnacle of great coaching. Innovation done right leads to advantages that could be the difference. I feel like Schloss was at the forefront of some stuff like the first base bag or getting to the comms or refusing to bunt (which may be arguable).
Just some thoughts, take them or leave them.
Really excited to see how this bright young coach leads our awesome team!
