The very last play of the game counts as a single. It hit the runner for the third out, but those still count as a hit.

I believe by rule when a batted ball strikes a baserunner, the runner is out and the batter is awarded a hit. Never seen a no-hitter broken up that way, especially on the final out of the game. Great opening weekend!

That is amazing. I didn't even think about that being a hit because it was such a slowly hit ball.

I was amazed the runner allowed it to hit her.

Imagine breaking up a no-hitter this way.

I thought they already had one hit. That's an awful way to lose the no-no

Great news! I was looking up the rule because it is such a corner case. And if the official scorer judges the batted ball would have been a hit, the batter is credited with a base hit, but if not, it is scored as a fielder's choice.

This was an absolute routine 4-3 play. So, fielders choice is the obvious proper call.

I guess this is an unusual situation because usually when a batted ball hits a runner the ball hit is a rocket headed to the outfield for a single. This was definetely not the case on this play.

Left fielder's dad was 3 rows in front of me. After the second drop he did slow down his chirping a bit.

I don't know if that guy was, but I did hear him from my seats. Sounded like he was more cheering them on than anything.
