Thanks for the analysis, we appreciate it! It's awesome to have a great fan who knows the game really well reporting from Davis.
I am really impressed and happy for Mya. The Super last year may have been her wake up call. Eight RBI's on the night for Mya! We all expected Mac to produce and she did not disappoint. Five RBI's on the night. The coaches and players have talked about their power all Fall and we got to see it. Koko, Maya and Kramer all went 4 for 5 on the night. Freshmen KK and Frankie showed why they got starts. Great to see a lot of clutch hits on the night. Allie had the HR but that was her only hit in 6 AB's. But only 1 SO. She led the team last year so that's good. I really hope she regains her early season form from last year. But her play in the OF makes up for it somewhat.
21 hits and only 3 strikeouts on the night. And 8 walks. Only 3 SB's, thought there would be more, but it's only one night.
Kennedy was really good, as usual. Had 8 K's and only 1 walk. Gave up a few hits but that's normal. Leavitt was good in relief, as was Sidne. I am surprised Coach started Grace since she was normally a reliever at Ole Miss. I thought she would be a little better. She is not an overpowering pitcher but a contact pitcher and she will give up hits, it's a given, but 6 in 2.1 innings is too many. But this was her first game in Maroon so we'll see. Limiting free bases WAS a great thing to see. Last year was better in this regard from previous years but hopefully this year will be much better.
I was surprised Coach let Kennedy go the full game (if only five innings). She might start vs Baylor but Coach makes surprise changes a lot so we might see Munnerlyn with the start. Perhaps Lessentine in first relief. Or Kennedy in a close game. I am really anxious to see the freshmen pitchers but Baylor is ranked so will just have to wait and see!
Coach talked about the lack of energy in the first innings of the first game. She really got on them about it. Admitted to cursing them a lot. "This is opening day, how do you not have energy?!?" They responded with a LOT of runs. Great to see that they COULD respond so well.
Overall, opening day was worth the long wait since last year but I was surprised and disappointed at all the empty seats. Gosh, enrollment is around 70k. Waaaaay more than my day. But should be better for SEC play, especially for Florida, Alabama and LSU. Perhaps better for Baylor and later in non-conference Texas Tech.
