How long do you want to ignore this user?
I am very anxious for the season to start, so I've put together a lineup, which is silly because I've never seen most of these guys play. But going off of what I've heard, I'm throwing something out there.

I'm leaving off Kiel and Farr because they're Freshmen, but that could be way off. I think our big holes to fill are all on defense, as it seems the bats should be good. Appel at catcher, Burton at 1st and Ali at short were all massive strengths last year and hopefully those positions remain strong, but that's a tall task.

So, here goes. Feel free to tell me where I'm wrong.

Kent SS
Graho 3B/2B
Jace CF
Henseler 2B/3B
Sorrell LF
Bergevin 1B
Kash RF
Schott/Binderup DH
J George C

I wonder how much input Coach Earley had on the lineup last year. I think Sorrell should be higher in the order (leadoff?), but I don't know if Earley likes to stack lefties and righties like we did last year.

Schott, also, is probably too low in the order. And if Binderup has gotten more consistent, he could be a monster.

Oh, well. Back to waiting.

Looks good but I believe Sorrell will be in RF and Kash in LF
I also think Binderup and Berg are still battling for first

Can't wait to see the batting order on opening day and how it evolves throughout the season. No real wrong answers there with our depth.

I'd personally put Sorrell in CF.

Nothing against Jace, I just think Caden is the best defensive outfielder on the roster.

I was thinking that Sorrell may be the guy in CF, Tubby in RF, Kash in LF. We'll see what Earley does.

I think Kent will need to cut down on K rate to be lead off. Agree with a 5 spot

I agree with the top 4 but I see the bottom 5 different than you.

Kash
Schott
Bergevin/Bindrup
Kent
And whoever wins out at C

Whoever is the better defensive 1st baseman should be the starter. If I had to guess I'd go with Bergevin.

I do agree with your defensive assessment. We will be taking a step back at C, SS, and 1st. I don't think we have a catcher on the roster that can fill Appel's shoes. Bear is young and maybe he'll keep growing in the position. I think Kent is a better 2nd baseman than SS. I hope he steps up and keeps the defensive drop off to a minimum. Ali was a fantastic defensive SS. So was Hunter Hass, but I think Ali was better defensively.

I like him in the 5 spot as well. I'd put Schotty in front of him in the 4 hole.

He struck out 20 times in 110 ABs last year.

i struggle to believe that kash will hit any lower than number 5 in our lineup.

Who has the better arm between Sorrell and Jace? I think they're both pretty equal so the better arm would have a lot to do with my decision on who's in CF/RF

I thought catcher was coming down to Harrison and Galloway and George was moved to utility. Has George been getting more reps at catcher?

I like this.

Nailed the L/R as best as you can. Get Jace as many PAs as possible. Provide protection to the catcher position.

I think it was already determined somewhere that Sorrell was moving to RF to replace Montgomery. That would leave Kash as either LF or 1B.

Will be curious to hear how Farr and Kiel look.

Kash's ability to play 1B gives us flexibility to play Kiel in LF if Bergervin/Binderup don't work out.

Also thought I read somewhere that Hensler could also play 1B but I'm not sure if that's true or not. If so it would give us an option to play Farr at 2B too and move Henseler over to 1B.

Lot of positional flexibility Earley will have at his disposal regardless.

Haas's fielding percentage was .974

Camarillo's was .961

While I certainly wanted my 12-yr-old MIF to study Ali's style of play last year, it's hard to argue Hunter wasn't pretty dang effective at the position too.

That lineup looks so good. On paper, we have a deadly lineup to face if you are the opposing pitcher. Can't wait for the season to start!

Some wishcasting here. I think LaViolette will probably play CF, but I really think Sorrell would be great there. D1 also seems to think I have Grahovac and Henseler switched defensively. Binderup could end up bot being the guy at 1B. Bergevin could also not be the guy though. Could see whoever starts at 2B or Kash moving over to 1B and trying Royo, Kiel, Farr, or George at 2B or LF/RF. Personally I'd like Schott to leadoff with Grahovac behind him, but the kid seemed to hit much better at leadoff last year.

Also I fully expect the catchers to rotate if that wasn't clear.

I didn't look at their fielding percentages, but I did say Hunter was fantastic too. They were both good SS. I just hope Kent can be effective at the position. I think his natural position is 2nd base, but I do like the example Earley is setting by showing the freshman how hard Kent has worked and is now being rewarded. Again, just an opinion.

I also would like to see a freshman position player push hard for a starting position. I hope it's Farr because I do think he's going to be good. Kiel is going to be good too. I like to see a freshman every year break through and we have had two good seasons so far with that happening.

Offensively that lineup is sick, 1-8 would be 1-5 in any lineup in college. We lack a lot of speed but as we saw last year that is something we can work around. Not much of any dead spots

Part of this lineup is what I think, part of it is what I've seen. In the 2 fall games, Kent was leadoff. That's why I have Kent as leadoff. GG, imo, is not an ideal leadoff hitter. Also, with our strong lefty batters, I think leadoff should be a lefty. Sorrell and Schott were in my list of possible leadoffs. I think Sorrell would be great, but I think Earley wants him batting later, driving in runs. Schott would be great, but doesn't have great speed. If Kent has improved his eye and gets on base consistently, he could be a great leadoff.

Actually, Kiel would be the dream leadoff if he can beat out several studs and start. I'm dying to see who the starters are and see how this team compares to last year's team.

Jace would be my leadoff. The Dodgers spent most of the year with Ohtani in that spot. The days of having a speed guy who gets on base are somewhat a thing of the past. Jace leading off means the best hitter will have the most plate appearances plus he still have speed, ability to draw walks, and its nice to start games 1-0 after the first batter.

Jace would be cool. I just don't see Earley doing that. Who knows.

I assume Earley with tinker with the lineup early so he may not be there opening day but I agree that's where he should end up. Maximizes his ABs, and he also happens to be our biggest base running threat. I think people forget he stole 19 bases his freshman year. He is going to get pitched around no matter where you put him in the order. The best you can do is put him in front of Grahovac.

So who do we think will be the opening day starter? Prager pitches on Sunday or do we runout some of the newer arms all weekend?

Agreed but I still see him working best at the 2 hole with Sorrell leading off and GG behind him
