nothing makes sense because the NCAA has no legal leg to stand on with almost any action they take....that's why it's going to blow up in the next few years

I've always said the student part will be removed. They will be seen as employees and how many employees are forced to take classes to stay employed? It's going down the path to have athletes just playing for the schools.

Any HS player worth their salt can go Juco for 2 years and stay draft eligible. If Jucos develop, these kids will get popped after 1-2 years and…

Wouldn't the NIL difference between JUCO and big time college baseball be the enticing factor?

The last couple years it's been harder than ever for high school kid to get into college baseball due to all Covid eligibility years … that's now ending and now this for HS kids.
This ruling makes it much harder for kids coming out of high school to go play college baseball. You're basically getting six years of eligibility so now you will see a ton of kids that would be going. D1 just go straigh juco then go D1 after that.
This really eliminates a lot of opportunity for kids not good enough to go 4 year D1 out of HS that would be going to JUCO. Those spots will now be taken by kids that are good enough to go to a four-year D1. .. and the four year D1 are gonna be full of fifth and six year seniors

IMO I don't think this will have as big of an impact as people are posing. I believe the kids that are good enough to see playing time at a D1, will still go D1. The kids that are hypothetically going to steal roster spots at JUCOs were most likely headed to a JUCO already after getting cut by a D1 program after fall.

Not sure how much I support or oppose this ruling without seeing a couple years of the actual trends it creates, but I do believe the hypotheticals going around this week will be unrealistic in the long term.

The idea he was denied NIL opportunity isn't because he lost eligibility to a juco season but because he wasn't good enough to be in a position to earn NIL money. He balled out in one game vs. Bama and hoping to cash in on that.

I agree that the better prospects aren't planning on playing 6 years of college baseball anyways, so you will still see them play D1 (especially with NIL as an extra incentive).

But, there are only x number of roster slots in all of college baseball. If some players are playing an extra 2 years, that takes spots from someone else.

Due to COVID, we increased the roster sizes due to having players hang around longer. Now, we are shrinking the roster sizes to slightly below their pre-COVID numbers. Adding two years of eligibility for a subset of players will take spots from others if this stands.

And allowing scholarships for all roster spots and can't restrict external nil. Likely paying at least $20 million in internal NIL especially to marketable football and men's basketball players.

Can't imagine why he would fight for another year…

But if the 5th/6th year guys are better than the fish, then we're really not seeing a decline of talent in D1 baseball.....we're just going to see the non-blue chip talent developed at the JUCO level and coming out of there rather than from HS - more guys the caliber of Ali, Nutty, Ashenbeck, etc. can transfer in and contribute more quickly. But yes, this will affect the high school recruits - as will the continued rise in NIL keeping mid-round draft picks on campus

It's the courts and legal system. Usually doesn't make sense.

2 years of JUCO, redshirt, & medical redshirt could result in 8 years of eligibility

NMSU won 2, 1 and 2 games the 3 years before he got there and in his 2nd year won 10. He won the national JUCO championship at NM Military Institute. He's got 6,500 yards and about 60 TDs. He's better than most given average at best talent around him.
