Just thought I'd make a thread for some hot takes after seeing the Ags in action twice this fall. Here are some of my personal thoughts.
  • Blake Binderup looks deserving of being our starter at 1B
  • TK2 and Jamal George are both really good and need ABs, but I don't know Earley will be able to get them in the game besides pinch-run/hit situations or in midweek games/at the end of games
  • Pitching will be totally fine, and our offense will be even better than last year

Was there with my family tonight for 7 innings. Son's first experience at BBP. Needless to say, but it was amazing.

I was most impressed with Kash. That dude is a stud.

Not sure how the OF comes together but TK speed is a weapon out there. I could see situations where he's a late game defensive substitute in CF where LaViolette goes to RF and Sorrell or Kash go to the bench with the other in LF. I don't think he starts on this team but he can take away the gaps and that has to be used sometimes.
A fearful society is a compliant society. That's why Democrats and criminals prefer their victims to be unarmed. Gun Control is not about guns, it's about control.

Blake is hitting but needs to tighten up his defense to be the regular at 1B.

Was the same last year. Did he miss some picks on bad throws yesterday? He makes the routine plays, but he rarely bails his infielders out on tough throws. I think he's probably a DH after Schott moves on.

My biggest takeaway was that I may have some crow to eat if the pitching staff performs like this all year. I've been worried about Kelly, but we could actually be better on the bump next year. UH is a bad ball club, but we just seem to have incredible depth in the bull pen.

Bobbled a grounder, missed what looked like a pretty good pickoff throw. 2 errors awarded, unable to know if the 2nd was awarded to him or the pitcher.

Binderup seems like he has cut down his chase rate so far

I feel like offense at the catcher position might be a major weakness in the lineup. I don't think either catcher got a hit across the two games, but correct me if I'm wrong there

True, but Galloway had 2 walks and an RBI last night. Plus, George can play catcher if needed, and his bat looked great. I'm not worried about the catcher position.

Binderup was swinging a hit bat in the lead up to last season too. Then struggled when the real games began. I think he is going to be an impact bat for us sooner rather than later but I don't know if he starts this year. I guess it will be him and Bergevin competing.

True. Schloss even went on to say last year our best team has him at 1B. Made a few mistakes in the field and bat didn't come alive soon enough and didn't play much the rest of the year. Hopefully, he has comeback story similar to certain local kid playing football across the street.

Jackson Appel is THE player we will miss the most.

I agree that catcher will be a downgrade from Appel. Bear is young and it's tough to compare him to a graduate with several years of experience.

B Mont will be missed as well. Everyone thinks about his bat, but his arm/defense was exceptional. It kept runners honest. Sorrell has it in him to raise his stats and we need both him and Kash to hit at or above .315 to replace what Braden did.

Also, Kash played 1st at Tech. It will be something to watch going forward.

I would be surprised if Sorrell is pulled for another player as a defensive substitute. He saved a few games for us last year and one reaching over the fence catching the ball. TK would not have reached anywhere near the ball.

I suspect he will be a late game sub to give he playing time and play a lot of mid-week games contributing to the games and getting preparation for 2026.

Sorrell is one of our best in the OF. Dude just flat cover ground and makes great plays at the wall

All four errors on Friday against UH were due to defensive shortcomings at 1B. One was a flat out booted routine medium paced ground ball by Binderup. He had another on a pick off move from the pitcher that he's got to be able to knock down and keep it around the bag. The final was a throw from shortstop that was not a tough pick that he just didn't see into his glove.

I was hoping Bergevine would do better when he came in but he also missed on a relatively routine pick from a low throw by an infielder.

We are going to miss "Teddy Two-Bags" defense over there.

In my opinion both of those guys are going to have to put in some serious work defensively or perhaps give Schott a look at 1st Base and see if he can pick it any better. Possibly Jamal George or Sam Erickson would be another option with a better glove if those guys don't improve.

We can't afford 4 errors a game to not be routinely cleaned up by a quality 1st Baseman. That could cost us a National Championship.

Those guys should be taking 500-1000 short throw picks a day between now and the season if they want to stay in the line up.

Hopefully ME has a plan. The most important defensive positions on the field are catcher and 1st, and I didn't like him at 1st last year...
