DBU is a damn solid small, private school program.

We can do better….a LOT better

Really? Because A&M is so special and we can get whomever we want?

Heefner is a GREAT choice and a man of character. We need those after both Fisher and Schloss. Two of the most selfish, narcissistic coaches around that only care about their own successes and life styles (especially Schloss).

The man is a winner! I'm sure you've known men like that in your life. The guy just knows how to win.

If he's not interested in money, I'm doubtful we can attract him to the **** show that is SEC sports.

I'm confident that his recruiter an Aggie with a great baseball mind, can play in the world of NIL and the transfer portal.

I'm calling this a 25% chance.

I'm at a complete loss why so many are against Heefner based on THEIR perception of what a good hire is. My guess is they want a what's considered a big and disruptive name so they can save some personal face? I said it on another thread, but go look what Heefner has done, but I mean take a serious close look at the data and I can't see how people can walk away from that and not be excited about how this guy can coach. I don't want to talk about recruiting. If the guy can coach anyone, then recruiting is less interesting to me (read=if he has success at a program like A&M, recruiting will fall in line)

Lots of people that don't know baseball are mad about this.

The closest equivalent to Heefner in football I can think of is Bill Snyder. A dude that way outperforms expectations every year and any program would love to have, but nobody ever expects to leave. Except Heefner gets better results than Snyder, comparatively.

Coach Heef would be a grand slam hire without question. But I don't think there is any possibility he'd make the move. When I say it's not about money, with him, it's truly not about the money. It's about having a program and doing it a specific way. DBU is as much about spiritual development as it is baseball development. It takes a special type of player who values his faith journey as much as his journey towards a baseball career…it's not for everyone. But for those that go through the program are changed forever. They play for an audience of 1, trying to glorify God in all they do. It works at DBU, but would never work at a public institution, even one as conservative as my beloved Texas A&M.

For transparency, my son will be playing for Coach Heef next season at DBU and our family couldn't be more proud. I love A&M, three generations of Aggies in my family and our daughter was an All-American softball player in Aggieland. As much as I'd like to see Coach Heef wearing maroon & white, I think he is and will be a Patriot for life…and I think that is good for college baseball and certainly good for my son. Gig'em!
First, congratulations on you son playing at DBU next year. Amazing accomplishment!!

Let's play this out and assume that Heefner is offered and takes the job. Your assessment likely means a short-term exodus of some players who wouldn't fit with Heefner's faith-based approach. As a fan base, some of us would appreciate this, many others would be livid and immediately hate the hire. So, I could see a short-term slide backwards, but the long-term outlook would be extremely positive. There are a TON of conservative Christian baseball families and players out there who are incredibly talented. Could Heefner maintain his ideal player profile and still land elite talent? I think so. And if we miss on some elite talent who has character issues, then it may be better for the TEAM in the long run.

Life is bigger than baseball and I'd be proud to have Heefner leading our team and using his much larger platform to glorify Jesus .

So we should have hired Bill Snyder in 2012 heading into the SEC?

I like the equivalency, it seems on track. The unknowable concern is would Snyder have had the same success with his system and process in the SEC?

Dan Heefner cannot do what is most important to him at a public university. You have a firsthand account of this. He is a better man than a coach. And he is a damn fine baseball coach.

Just seems like the learning curve would be way too steep and way too high for literally everything beyond just baseball. He'd be dealing with a ton of stuff he's never really had to before. Stuff like
- 1000's of fans, both the good types and bad
- NIL, and its ugly side
- recruiting the diamonds, as opposed to trying to sniff out the diamonds in the rough….not to mention their egos, and some of the PARENTS (yikes)
- transfer portal, both directions
- SEC competition
- high pressure and expectations, from every direction

I dunno man….
