Will the 2025 roster be good enough for another run?
End of eligibility:
Badmaev
Burton
Aschenbeck
Peery (?)
Targac
Chestnut
To the draft:
Monty
Most likely to the draft:
Prager
Cortez
Potentially returning:
Camarillo
Appel
Schott
Stewart
Returning Starters:
Kent
Grahovac
LaViolette
Sorrel
Returning Pitching that saw significant innings or had previous to injury:
Sdao
Lamkin
Wansing - Is he considering retirement?
Wilson
Rudis
Jones
Moss
I know there are a lot of other pitchers on the roster, and some of them may end up being significant contributors, but I don't know enough about them to determine if they will be impact players or not.
If Ali and Jackson return, then basically our whole infield returns except 1b. We have a big bat coming in from the Ivy League via the portal that will be hitting somewhere in the order. I am not sure where he will play in the field. Be nice to get some power out of the 1B position. If Shott does come back, I assume he would stay as DH.
Then we have several intriguing players like Binderup and Bell that could end up being key pieces.
Don't know much about the recruiting class. I know it is pretty good, but don't know if their are any Grahovac or Sorrel type players coming in.
I also know that Schloss usually does a heck of a job in the transfer portal but that still has to shake out some. I expect us to go hard after any elite arm in the portal as we need a top end starter and a couple of bullpen arms. We probably have 2 of our 3 weekend starters already in Sdao and Lamkin. Both are solid starters for an SEC team. i think Wilson and Moss could become significant bullpen arms or Tuesday night starters.
i think the biggest problem for next year is finding a 3rd weekend starter (and preferably a high end starter) and a couple more bullpen arms. If we can find those, then I think the rest of the roster will be good enough to compete for a championship.
Thoughts?
