What do we know about them?

Who's going to pitch for them?

Who are their key hitters?

Looks like they got efficient pitching in game one

One of their best players is from Canada. On of their relief pitchers transferred from A&M.

Thats all I got.

We seem pretty beat up right now. Gotta get more offense if we're gonna make a run. I'd move Sorrell up.

87 homers on the season . Completely different beast than Flawda.

Team ba .288 which is good but not great . We hit .299 for the season fyi. Obp .404 vs our .419

Stole 119 bases for the season vs our 78. They are aggressive runners

Team era at 4.92 for season, a full point higher than ours

Fielding % .980 vs
Our .978. They don't beat themselves often

Uk allows 4.43 walks per 9 innings, # 109 in the Nation.
Not a particularly strong point for their pitching staff . We of course lead the nation in walks drawn. Our pitching staff is # 12 in the nation . At 3.3 walks allowed per 9 innings

I would put Jackson behind Jace and leave GG at leadoff.

Here's what I could find about their pitching situation. Their bullpen wasn't taxed too much yesterday.

They used their best starting pitcher by far, Pooser. He lasted 101 pitches. We should be seeing their no. 2 guy tomorrow. He's Mason Moore. Season era of 4.93. Last week against OSU he pitched 3.1 innings giving up two runs, one earned.

Their top top active reliever is Hogan who threw only 12 pitches yesterday. Their no. 2 reliever is Hummel who threw 30 pitches.

The mystery is Ryan Hagnow. He has great numbers, an era of 1.96. He's their dugout captain but I think he might be injured although a search on that didn't turn up anything. He only pitched 18.1 innings this season and didn't pitch in their Super Regional or against N. Carolina State yesterday.

And I guess I'm too much of a history nerd not to point out that we fought two wars against them.

I agree. I would not have moved GG out of leadoff after the year he's had. He's tailed off some, but I wouldn't mess with that.

Pushing Jackson to the 3 hole would be my move as well. Last night thrown out, he's been consistent IMO & hasn't slumped as bad as Jace & Braden did late in the season. Put Schott in the 4 hole & then the next 5 can be in any order. I do like Sorrell where he's at, I wouldn't move him. Sometimes you can mess up a player's mental approach if they are in a different spot in the order.

They're a great team that doesn't have a lot of great players. They play their game and they just find ways to win games. Those are fun teams to watch but frustrating teams to play. Couple of things I see in their stats:

Moore gives up a lot of walks and obviously that's a bad recipe against us. He also doesn't strike out a lot of guys, less than 1/ inning. All told he's at 80/51 K/BB over 87 IP.
They have three everyday batters under .250 on the year.
They have two batters with double digit HR.
They don't walk a lot 290 on the year which is 4.9/game. Compare that to us at 403 which is 6.4/game.

The federal government was never meant to be this powerful.

I also assume Mason Moore will start. He is a ground ball pitcher which can play into the strength of the UK infield. He also gets into jams with walks/HBP/backstop which makes for stressful innings. For his start in the regionals he was coming off "flu-like" symptoms and then against OSU in the Supers he did't really seem back to normal.

Agreed. He was one of the highest rated recruits to come to UK. He has been solid but not up to the high expectations that were put upon him. He seems comfortable in being in a solid support role.

During most of the conference season UK relied on "manufacturing" lots of runs to win ball games because the bullpen would end up giving up runs late in the game. However, towards the end of the year the bull pen started playing more consistent.....and the offense fell off a bit. In the regionals and super regionals they held ISU and OSU to scoreless games mostly due to solid fielding.

The best overall player (Waldschmidt) is currently in a slump. The back end of the line up has picked up recently to offset the slump.

Pretty decent team speed.

They are generally aggressive in base running.

Their dugout will do "softball" things that Texags will complain about.

Sean98 will be along shortly to correct everything I just said.

They will play great defense, like to steal bases, a lot of hit and runs, drag/push bunts for hits, will squeeze bunt and also sacrifice bunt. Will try put pressure on our defense.

Good thing is they play on an artificial field in Lexington. Things might not play as they think with bunts and even sliding

Good point and I hope you're right. But they have a 19-5 road record. That's s impressive, maybe better than anyone else in the country, especially playing in the SEC.

They hit virtually no HRs before conference play but hit quote a few from mid-March on. They have guys that can run the ball out of the park.

As others have said I think we have a chance to get Moore into deep counts and get into their bullpen. Hogan and Hagenow have been good. Hummel was great the guest half then really faltered the 2nd half of the year but has righted the ship somewhat the last 2 weeks.

They will put pressure on your defense in a lot of ways. They won't hesitate to bunt for hits or sacrifices. They will steal bags. They grab 90 feet in a lot of ways at a high level.

Moore allows quite a few . Sinker baller that can have troubles with the zone. Lots of ground balls.

There was a gross disparity between us and Oregon in walks surrendered. They were significantly higher than us. That was one of the big factors in that legendary 7th inning.

If we stay disciplined and don't chase balls out of the zone, I like our chances of getting into their bullpen early and often.
