Prager or not Prager?

Not Prager. Lamkin or Rudis

What is Schloss history on this decision? Does he have a track record of not using his best ace in first game? Childress M.O. was to always use his Friday starter in Game 1, correct?

My guess is sdao

If we still had Childress, it would 100% be Prager… I'm hoping Schloss throws Larkin or Rudis. I'd even be up for throwing Sdao.

Coach Childress almost always went with keeping the starters in the order they'd been in during the season.

I say almost because he made an exception one season, but I can't get the older schedules to pull up to see if it was 2018 or 2019.

Depends on the matchup.

We could land a 4 seed with a mediocre overall team but single kick tail ace starting pitcher.

If we land a team without that then we probably adjust our rotation.

How many games are we going to play at the SECT? Two? Three? Four? I'm guessing Schloss won't wear out any pitcher in Hoover, but this week will tell us more about regional weekend.

My guess as well.

We're likely to play 3-4 games this week in Hoover. Maybe 2. I'd be shocked if we didn't start Morton or Moss Wednesday but you might see Lamkin, Peery or Jones I suppose. Braden might even get to pitch this week. I expect much more committee type use of our pitchers all week. If anyone goes more than 4 innings, heck maybe more than 3 I'll be really surprised.

Not Prager.

Sdao or Lamkin probably. If it's a right handed heavy lineup, I could see Schloss going with Jones.

Wednesday at Hoover will be a bullpen day. If we win game one, I think we may hold Prager for game 3, whether that is Friday (if we lose game 2) or Saturday (if we win game 2). I think we'll see some guys who have been deep in the bullpen get a chance. If they have success, we'll stretch them out. If not, we'll go to someone else. Schloss will want Prager and Sdao to get SOME mound time, but I'm thinking it won't be more than 75 pitches.

As others have said, for the regional, it totally depends on the matchup. If we get a team without a real ace, we may save Prager for game 2. Holding your ace for the second game is the biggest advantage of being a 1 seed, but some times you can't run that risk.

Also, it depends on who Schloss wants to pitch against Texas in game 2 of the regional.

Did Kilkenny and Kolek start ahead of Doxakis in 2018? I think they did.

Doxakis started the first game in the 2018 Austin regional.

Looks like Doxakis is on the Rockies' AAA team.

Apparently Kolek is with the Padres in the big leagues! How did I miss that?

Kolek just moved up in late April, I think.

Schloss said Prager would be ready to go Thursday. If we win Wednesday you have to pitch Prager if UT is our opponent.

Too early to say. Need to see the other teams and (to a much lesser degree) consider how tournament usage impacted the staff.

On the broadcast yesterday, the color commentary team stated that Schloss has typically held his ace for game two in regional brackets. I think this only reinforces the thought of Sdao starting game 1 of regionals.

Prager could certainly go on Thursday. But if Schloss is thinking of starting him in game 2 of the regional, then pitching him on Friday or Saturday might make sense.

If we can't beat a mid major 4 seed with our #2/3 starter then we will have bigger issues.

I say not Prager

I think you mean Wednesday as we don't play Tuesday but I get your point. The other school of thought, given this tournament it's not the ultimate goal, is to hold Prager and not let UT see him in case we play them in Omaha.

Why I think he'll want to do more than anything is, as twk said, is get them 60-75 pitches and get them on schedule for what day they're likely to pitch next week.

I tend to agree. Schloss played Sdao for a shorter start this weekend and made a comment about how Ole Miss weekend stretched him (Sdao) out. Schloss mentioned he wanted to get him ready for Hoover.

I could also see an argument for Lampkin. All based on Friday.

You misspelled "Lamar." Texas will be in the elimination game by then.

Eh. You pitch him Thursday against UT in hopes to win the SEC and let him have a long rest before he pitches again in regionals imo. I'm no coach though.

Was it widely known that Rudis would start Friday to soften them up? I was surprised but thought that wouldn't be the worst way to pitch a starter that doesn't have shut down stuff or who has been struggling.

No. Schloss only mad the decision when we secured the top 4 seed with the UGA loss.

Some 4 seeds have a really good Friday starter. Ut will depend on the opponent.

It depends on the opponent's ace. I probably go Lampkin.
RED AG 98
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Agreed. Nearly 100% depends on the opponent's Friday starter, not their RPI or record.
