Wadd96 was here defending him because they were very good friends. Unfortunately, we unexpectedly lost Wadd this past fall.

No. In 2022 there was a baseball stats guy (I think he was associated with Davidson?) who was releasing trackman info on Twitter. It made the umpires look as terrible as you'd expect. Powers that be shut that down real fast once it started getting attention.
Turns out it was actually Virginia Tech. The guy wasn't secretive about it. But I think they "own" the data once the NCAA tournament starts (which is when he shut it down). Not sure if he lost access after that or just decided it wasn't worth having a powerful organization in a field he wanted to work in be pissed off at him.
