Thank you as always jkag! The picture should get a touch more clear after this weekend.

With 4 SEC series remaining, the Ags are in great shape. Of course there is still a lot of work to do, but the schedule and matchups are certainly favorable. Here are last 4 series of the current top 4 teams.

#1 Texas A&M (13-5)
vs #20 Georgia (9-9)
at LSU (5-13)
at Ole Miss (6-12)
vs #2 Arkansas (14-4)

#2 Arkansas (14-4)
vs Florida (8-8)
at #4 Kentucky (15-3)
vs Miss St (10-8)
at #1 Texas A&M (13-5)

#3 Tennessee (12-6)
vs Mizzou (6-12)
at Florida (8-10)
at #11 Vandy (10-8)
vs #24 S Car (9-9)

#4 Kentucky (15-3)
at #24 S Car (9-9)
vs #2 Arkansas (14-4)
at Florida (8-10)
vs #11 Vandy (10-8)

Bama/Miss will be interesting. Ole Miss has won 2 of 3 home SEC series against State and SoCar, and got swept by Kentucky. So that's 2 wins against decent teams. Bama, on the other hand, hasn't won an SEC road GAME yet. While Bama is the better overall team, they're spending their next 2 weekends in Mississippi. Going 0-6 could be devastating. but it IS possible.

Looks like Arkansas-Florida could be a complete rain out. This would take the Hogs out of contention. Would be a shame but it's all part of this game we all love.

Your forecast looks similar to ours. Chances of rain Friday and Saturday, but not all day. Sunday is the biggest problem for both of us, although from what I've seen, we might have a window to play early in the day on Sunday (they have pushed back the biggest chances to mid-afternoon or later). Of course, this far out, timing is going to change. But, I think there is a very good chance that Arkansas and Florida play one Friday (they might want to consider playing earlier on Friday) and a doubleheader Saturday. We should probably consider the same thing.

What exactly does the bolded mean? Do you mean out of commission for this weekend only or more broadly out of contention for the title or something else? SEC Champs are determined by winning percentage and not total W/L record, so not playing at all would is actually more beneficial for championship purposes than all outcomes except sweeping them.

I haven't paid much attention to Georgia, and from what I've seen they look like a typical .500 team. Are they better than that and have just been underperforming? Not sure what their talent depth is like this season.

RPI-wise they're the highest rated team we've played so far this year. But, like most of the SEC, they're a different animal at home vs on the road (just 2-7 in their road conference games).

Their offense is one of the few in the country that can keep up with ours when they're both hot, but we have the clear advantage on the mound.

This is the most nervous I've been about any SEC series this year other than Florida. I think it'll be a dog fight (no pun intended) to take 2/3 but we get it done.

We could definitely benefit from a South Carolina series win over Kentucky. That's a very intriguing series.

Offense is very good, especially at UGA where the field dimensions are quite small. The stats are quite simlar to the Ags across the board.

Pitching has not been great; they're in the bottom of the SEC in most categories. Home field probably plays a part here but they are not great. Looks to me that all of their weekend starters pitched in the marathon vs Clemson, though none were extended. They used 10 pitchers and threw 250, but most all were in the 20-30 pitch range.

Friday Ace was very good early this season, but missed nearly all of his April starts due to shoulder soreness. First game back was last Saturday vs Ole Miss; he threw 2.0 and about 25 pitches iirc. Coincidently he pitched again Tuesday, again 2.0 but less than 20. Their Saturday and Sunday starters also pitched 20 and 14 in that Tuesday game.

VERY offensive team. Struggling on the mound. Condon is easily the front runner for golden spikes and has some of the most unbelievable offensive numbers that have been posted in college baseball in years. But even beyond Condon that entire lineup is very good. They are probably a top 5 offense in the country (along with us).

Their pitching has been their weak link. But it sounds as though they may be getting a couple pieces back from injury that could have an impact and they have recently had a couple of bullpen guys emerge as pretty trustable.

Looking like a pretty strong south wind all weekend, meaning the ball could be REALLY flying at Olsen. Seems like a high likelihood of a lot of big flys, for both teams this weekend. Probably some high scoring games inbound with that south wind and 2 of the ~top 4 offenses in the country.

I do believe we are significantly better than them on the mound, and we have the home field advantage. But, with the south wind, an elite contact offense for Georgia and the fact that we pound the strike zone, I do not love the matchup. Could definitely see our pitching getting shelled at times this weekend. I am thinking this is a series where we win 2 of 3 with at least one of the wins being a real back and forth nail biter

I'm keeping an eye on Tech (RPI #33) this weekend. They've largely been mediocre against even or better competition this year, but swept West Virginia last weekend to get back in the Big 12 title race (before getting boat raced by New Mexico on Tuesday).

If they can follow up the WVU showing with a road sweep of Kansas (BIG if), they close out conference play vs #18 Oklahoma and @ #25 Oklahoma State with an opportunity to make some noise. If you squint, you can see a possible path to hosting.

Some quick back of the napkin math based on the stats to date, and the offense definitely plays up at home in the small confines of Foley Field.

LF (350) and CF (404) are somewhat normal. The power alleys (370, 365) are a bit small. But RF at 314 is super cheap, which plays well with their big lefty bats.

I don't think you pitch to Condon in any situation that matters. You don't necessarily give him an intentional pass, but you don't throw strikes.

Slugging a jaw-dropping 1.097.

Came up in Schloss' interview today. Said he could think of 1 time in his career when he put the winning run on but that you have to consider that with Condon...

Interesting. Well, I guess it still doesn't change our approach. Clearly we need our starters to go deep then and keep their hitters in check. If we're running lots of pitchers out there than we'll need our bats to matching their output. Sounds like that shouldn't be a problem is their pitching is struggling. Hopefully we can secure the season by Saturday. Curious to see what happens with Sunday pitching. Need to get that firmed up. Assuming Lamkin will still be the Sunday starter or will Schloss elect to run someone else out for a change of pace?

I'd really like to see Aubie get at least one from LSU, and ideally see Mizzou bite UT at least once but that seems unlikely. Some legit critical series this week. Could see LSU, Ole Miss or UF really solidify their status in one way or another. (Also UGa but they need to get smacked around!)

A repeat of last weekend (double header for games 2 and 3) is looking fairly likely at the moment.

Based on what Schloss said in his interview, I think Lamkin will get the nod for game 3.

They pitched fairly well against Ole Miss (6 runs, 2 runs, and 3 runs) and against Clemson Tuesday (3 runs in 15 innings) and have just gotten their original Friday starter back from injury, so they may pitch better than one might think.

And Corey Collins' numbers would be jaw dropping if not for Condon.

Luckily they don't have the pitching to go along with their offense.

all right, the Georgia baseball team is making its 4th trip to College Station / Blue Bell Park

(still waiting for the Georgia football team to find its way to College Station, but that's a story for another thread)

UGA is only 1-8 at Blue Bell. A&M has won the 3 previous series: 2013 (sweep), 2016 (sweep), and 2021 (2/3)

when the teams last met in 2022....the Ags became the first road team to win the season series...by taking 2/3 in Athens

for the 2015 comparison...2024 is tied with the '15 squad after 41 games:

2015 --> 36-5
2024 --> 36-5

for the 7th conference weekend, the 2015 team lost 2 of 3 in Baton Rouge in a #1 vs. #2 showdown

A bit strange on Mizzou at UT.

UT goes with an opener. Kid that hasn't thrown more than 30 pitches in an outing all year.
(Edit 2: no idea what pbp guy was saying. Stamos hasn't gone deep but he has multiple 40 and even and 50 pitch outing...)

Mizzou, I understand this a bit more because they've been so awful, but they go with a guy making his first ever start.
(Edit 1: who on cue gives up a leadoff homer to one of the hottest hitters in the country in Moore...)

Mizzou radio announcers are complaining about how high up their booth is. Don't often hear that at college stadiums. ESPN's announcers would be thrilled just to be in the parking lot taking in some of the atmosphere while they call off of monitors.
