Anyone know what the program record is for a season?

We are chasing 125. And they have been coming in bunches lately.

Commentators just mentioned how Arkansas' Aloy leads the team with 9 HRs. We have players with 20, 18, & 13. It's good to be us.

How many times have we had 3 runs after 3 batters this year?

Radio said we have hit 1/4 of HRs in 1st inning.

Prior to Tubby's 21 last season, we had had three with 20+ in program history. We're likely to have three THIS SEASON. Crazy.

Braden must hate Jace for stealing all those RBIs from him…

Schloss has built a team that is tailor-made for playing at Blue Bell in April, May, and June

i.e. the heat and south wind

The school record is actually 128. The current media guide is wrong, and short changed the 1999 team 3 home runs.

Yeah, 128 is the number I saw on baseball cube (obviouslynot an official source). But everyone seems to be going with 125 on here.

We probably need to shoot for 129 then and adjust our countdown.

We are currently averaging 2.08 HRs per game. At that pace, we get to 129 in 25 more games. We have 18 games left in the regular season. Then post-season.

Man, I had almost forgotten what a wins vulture Chris Russ was. Only TWO starts and a 12-2 record on the season.

I know. I had also forgotten about Porter being on that team. Further, we have gone from Ty Garner to Kaeden Kent. Now I'm thinking we need to find a kid of a former Astro player every couple of years to keep upping our season HR record.

They and Tennessee are both around 95.

In Texas we tend to play harder teams midweek because UTSA, Texas State, Rice etc. aren't slouches.

It's not like we get to play tu every Tuesday to boost our HRs.

Sort of. Their field is 390 to dead center and like 320 at the corners.

Think of every ball we've hit deep or to the warning track. Those would now be HRs if we played on that field.

Also, the 1999 team was fantastic, but the bats they used were ridiculously loaded. It's hard to compare the current bats to those.

This is a good article that shows how changes in bats have effected college baseball over the years. It was written by one of the guys who developed the BBCoR standard.

What's impressive is that our team is chasing a record that was set at nearly the peak of Gorilla Ball. The label of the x-axis is misleading because it showed that the Ball Exit Speed Ratio (BESR) standard was implemented in 1999 just after the peak occurred but it was after the season. Also, I believe the home runs per game shown is really home runs per team per game although that's not stated. The chart is also dated since it ends in 2017 and the trend at that time was upward.

Can you imagine LaViolette batting with an aluminum bat?

What is the actual ideal target, though? Is it a certain number of home runs per game, runs per game, or a certain batting average? Or is it just a few high profile games that people find distasteful due to too-low or too-high scoring, that causes the governing bodies to (over-)react?
McInnis

I don't know. I thought that the move away from aluminum bats was due to player safety concerns. But for myself, I don't care for a steady diet of 10-8 type scores.

My understanding is that BBCOR was about player safety, as a solution to increasing offensive power in D1 teams.

My personal taste is that I would like to see fewer homeruns, but higher batting averages. Having more men on base makes the game more fun to watch. So, bring back the raised-seam balls, and maybe relax the bat weight limits a little.
