You guys are focusing on the initial mistake of being picked off. Again, mistakes happen. He's good if not great. I've already admitted this.

Further, as stated I'd almost guarantee he's extremely pi$toff as he stopped a big inning.

Early in baseball games you play for the big inning. Meaning, if you look at the nightly box scores of the mlb, you will see the winning team scores as much or more in one inning, than the losing team will score the entire game. I won't make up a percentage, but it's significantly above 50%, and lots of nights closer to 75%.

He's up right now and will probably tie the game.

He just struck out, leaving a runner stranded on second, which cost a run. Wanna start a thread about that too?

He's on base more than anyone else so law of averages says he'll have a few more mistakes.

He's legit one of the worst base runners I've seen for the level of player he is overall. It's fascinating tbh.

We do not run the bases well as a team. If Nolan Cain indeed held up Grahovac that's hard to believe. The throw was never going to even go home.

Nolan Cain is not a good 3rd base coach. Elite recruiter, I'm sure he's a great guy, but man does he make some bad calls over there.

I was there, but was focusing on Montgomery to see if he was going to tag and go to third thinking there might possibly be a play on him. The right fielder was never going to throw home. Grahovac could have scored running backwards. That's all on Nolan.....who hasn't had a good year coaching third.

Even then with Montgomery coming to third, what good does it do to just stand on the bag which ended up being occupied by two Aggie runners. At least break towards home and make them make a play on you.

Shouldn't have held him the first time either. Gavin had 2 chances to score that inning.

Nolan is an absolute beast in the recruiting game but he's just not a third base coach.

I propose he only hit dingers. Can't get thrown out if you aren't on base.

Doesn't he lead the nation in RBIs? He's a beast at the plate and cannon for an arm. Some if you guys need to step away from the bottle.

Yep, he has been a bit brainless and frankly mentally lazy out there on the bases. Not the 1st game where he looked clueless, like he barely knows the game.

Pretty disappointing considering he is a top 10 pick. But good news is that it is pretty easy for him to clean up.

Tangential, but baseball should get rid of the base coaches. Would make for a much more interesting game

Otherwise, UTSA just needs to walk behind Montgomery and tag him out at third since the bag was already occupied.

If Grahovac goes, then UTSA is forced to either try to get Montgomery out before Grahovac crosses the plate, or throw home to get Grahovac. That would also increase the chance of an error.

This isn't the first time the third base coach royally screwed up directing the runners.

I said the same thing....the whole scenario makes no sense. Once the throw went into second and they had Montgomery headed towards third, Grahovac has to take off for home. At least go down with an effort and don't give up by having two guys standing on the same bag. Sadly, Cain seemed as confused as anyone.

I can't help but think that Cain was attempting to hold up Montgomery at second, and Grahovac misunderstood and thought he was getting helped up. Trouble said she saw him put the stop sign up for Grahovac though. Even though he could have tagged up and scored walking home, at the very least bluff the attempt at tagging up in hopes they air mail one from the outfield over the catcher.

The play before on the double off the wall, Cain should have positioned himself about half way between home and third....then make a quick decision just before Grahovac gets to the bag at third. Put the stop sign up at the last second if you don't think you can score Grahovac (which he could have scored easily). Instead he was standing close to the bag at third and helped up Grahovac after he rounded second. Just poor base coaching.

To be fair, the one last night Grahovac should take some of the blame. Montgomery has a high baseball IQ. With the catch of the fly ball being out 2 you send that runner from 3rd 99% of the time. Chances of scoring are much higher than counting on the chances of a hit by the next batter.

Monty has to have his eyes up. But, in his defense, 1000% Grav should have been sent home, so I can at least understand where his head was at.

Agreed. Who knows if Earley is any better, but it can't hurt to try at this point. Unless Cain is going to get butthurt about it I guess.
