Incarnate Word is 7-1. They might be a solid squad at least a tougher team than Lamar.

Not really a fan of tough teats myself.

I saw USC with my own eyes last weekend. They're dreadful.

We're not last year's team. And seemingly, neither is Lamar.

Can someone explain to me why we play ASU twice and not TCU?

ASU and USC didn't want to play each other since they are in the same conference and have a weekend series later in the year.

ASU and USC have pretty bad records and we *should* be able to handle them.

perhaps surprising...

A&M has only played Arizona State one time ever...in 2007 at the MMP classic -- never crossed paths in the postseason

the Ags have only played USC once (2005) in the last 30 years

That game against USC at Dell Diamond was my first ever Aggie Baseball game. I was in junior high but was in town for the girls high school state basketball tournament to watch my sister. I went with my 2 older brothers who were at A&M at the time (Class of '05 and '07).

USC came to Olsen for the 1994 continental Classic . Took both games from the Ags including a 16-1 pounding

That was the weekend the '94 season fell apart. Besides only going 3-3 in our own tournament, the next two weekends saw us start 0-6 in SWC play after getting swept by Texas and swept by Rice. We also lost series to Tech and TCU, and failed to sweep anyone finishing 6-12 in conference play. We went on the road early in the season and swept Arizona in Tucson, so there were high hopes for the season. Coming off a CWS trip the year before, the '94 season was certainly a dud.

USC came to Olsen in 1978, the year Olsen opened, and beat us. Is 2005 the only win A&M has against them?
W

A&M is 2-4 all-time vs. Southern Cal

0-2 in1978 at Olsen

1-0 in 1980 at Olsen

0-2 in 1994 at Olsen

1-0 in 2005 at Round Rock

Just FYI, ASU is hitting .354 as a team after 8 games. They have 21 doubles and 16 homers.

Granted I have no idea what type of pitching they've been facing.

And I truly believe that last year we'd have lost the Saturday game to Wagner. Amazing what good pitching will do.

They've faced:

Ohio State
Kansas State (midweek)
Santa Clara

I wouldn't think that they've seen very good pitching as of yet. I'm willing to be we can out-rake em as well.

They have given up: 6, 13, 14, 6, 11, 14, 13, & 8 runs.

We should be able to score some runs especially if we're patient. They have given up over 5 walks a game.

Or maybe if we're not patient. They have given up over 11 hits per game.

We are now at 59 innings pitched.
ERA- 0.76
WHIP-0.81

Not too shabby.

Lead all of baseball in ERA & K-BB Ratio. Basically tied in first in WHIP (gotta goto the thousandths place).

If I remember correctly, USC was our opponent in the very first game played at Olsen. I was six years old and met Mr. Olsen for the first time. My dad was amazed by the ballpark but he said it was crazy to build it because we'd never fill it up.

What I read was that since USC and Arizona St. are in the same conference, they don't want to play each other this early since they have a conference series against each other later in the season. So, to accommodate, TCU plays USC twice and we play Az. St. twice.

Schloss talked about this on TA radio earlier in the week. The weekend was originally A&M, Ms St, USC, Az St. We didn't want to play MSU OOC and the assumption of USC & ASU didn't want to either. Schedule was set. MSU drops out. TCU joins.

No conspiracy. No bad blood. Kind of boring.

It is pretty dumb, in my opinion, to pull any 2 teams from the same conference in this type of series. I don't know of any program that would want to play a conference team early in the season.

Maybe they were trying to set something up where they had 3 PAC and 3 SEC teams but could only get two. They're just getting started on doing these tournaments... this is the first year they're doing 3 weeks in a row.

I assure you, they weren't setting out to have 2 teams from the same conference (much less two sets of two teams from the same conference) but stuff like that happens. It's not easy to get one college baseball tournament set up the way you want; doing three, like they did in Arlington this season, pretty much guarantees that you are going to have some glitches.

We ended up hosting the SWC tournament and not playing in it.

That season was kind of the coming out party for Rice as Graham was about to take them on a 15 year run.
94chem,
That, sir, was the greatest post in the history of TexAgs. I salute you. -- Dough
