his catch the other night is a great example of what a drama queen he is....why he felt the need to crash into the stands after the catch is beyond me....i seem to be the only one who holds this opinion of him, but if there are any others who think jeter is a very mediocre shortstop and a pretty boy who plays for the media, let me know and we can hate him together, b/c he is my least favorite player of all time

I hate him, but then again I hate anyone who plays for the Yankees.

Ill have to admit he is an asskisser and does seem to do things for show. HOWEVER i think alot of it is "over done" by baseball tonight and peter gammons and harold renoylds jocking them and the red soxs nuts every time something happens. He very easily could have stopped and there was no need to dive into the stands. But he wanted to make sure everybody knew HOW HARD HE WAS TRYING for the city of new york and their loyal fans. BARF.....

Remeber when he cut off that ball to the plate and tossed it back to get out giambi when he was with the As? Not only was he way out of position on the play it wouldnt have even been close if giambi wasnt a jackass and would have just slid into home like a normal person. BUT sportscenter and baseball tonight was making it sound like it was the BEST play they had ever seen and an amazing HEADS up play on his part. Give me a break. he was out of position and just flicked the ball to the catcher. TERRIFIC big woop, lets see if we can jock these teams and their players any more

glad to see we agree on something bullard....that play on giambi was not that great, but it will live on in highlight films forever cuz he is a yankee....i wouldnt hate the yankees nearly as much as i do if it werent for him....he is such an average player, but he is made to be a superstar by the media and the new york spolight

for the record, i have nothign against derek jeter .. in fact, i like him as a ballplayer. that flip he made against oakland in the playoffs a few years ago was a tremendous play

but this one the past week is WAY overrated. it did look like he jumped into the stands. i thought it was kind of funny actually. if it were against the royals, it wouldnt have been a big deal.

as for gammons, we all know he is the VP of Public Relations for the Boston Red Sox

sometimes hyping the red sox means you have to hype the yankees too

i agree, the flip was a great play, the dive wasnt really. Jeter is by FAR, by FAR, the most overrated player in the game today, and I am going to go out on a limb and say in the history of the game. He is an average hitting SS, and below ave. fielder. And dont give me the crap about his rings. He didnt win those, $200 million did.

Jeter did earn one ring...how bout that 1996 Yankee team that wasnt supposed to win it all...a team that was supposed to get swept by the Braves...that team didnt have 200 million dollar team salary...in fact that team had Mariano Duncan and Charlie Hayes...not to mention an aging Wade Boggs and Luis Sojo to boot. Don't knock on Jeter...he's got more heart than all the shortstops in the major leagues right now.

i'm sure there might be some SS's (who make a heckuva lot less than Jeter) who have something to say about that. I'd expect a guy who makes 18.6 million this year to show some heart. BTW, Michael Young has been known to show a little heart as well and he's making 18 mil less than Jeter.

I like Jeter, dont get me wrong. But his salary alone makes him one of the most overrated players in baseball.

if it was ANYONE other than a yankee making that catch in the stands, everyone would be lauding it as a great catch. instead, since it was a damn yankee, jeter made it hollywood-esqe.

A good shortstop makes that play very easy. Also, most ball parks Jeter would simply jog it out and its a running catch. But its "one of the greatest plays in regular season history" because he makes the cacth and dives in the stands. Horrible.

didn't Jim Edmonds make his insane diving backwards over-the-head catch in teh regular season?

How about Bo Jackson's catch on the wall (literally) and throw (from on the wall) to hose Harold Reynolds at the plate?

and Crawling....if it was anyone other than a Yankee it would have been a SportCenter Top 10 play and then left alone....not talked about on every single sporting channel (TV or Radio) or written about in every sporting publication

Michael Young has more heart than Derek Jeter.

Okay...when was the last time Michael Young took the reins and lead his team to the playoffs...when was the last time Michael Young go all out to save his team from elimination...when was the last time Michael Young was called Mr. November...yes i said november...look it up...dont compare Michael Young to Derek Jeter until he has the rings, earned an All Star MVP award, and a World Series MVP Award.

Derek Jeter is a complete badass.

oh well if those are the qualifications for heart then I suppose it's a pretty narrow field, especially since it appears your team has to be in the post-season as a pre-req

I decided to "look it up" and I now wonder if you can call someone Mr. November when his career post-season BA is lower than his career regular-seaon BA?
Or if his career League Championship Series (usually played in November) BA is 42 points lower than his career regular-season BA?
Or how about if his career WS BA (also played in November) is 15 points lower than his career regular-season BA?

If you took Jeter off of the Yankees he would become just another good offensive SS and he wouldn't be leading anyone into the playoffs because he alone isn't enough to take a lower-level or even mid-level team to the playoffs....of course no one would want to take him off because of his rediculous contract

I'm a Twins fan and I would take Jeter over Guzman any day.

Don't get me wrong, I hate the Yankees. I just appreciate a player that can be a face of a franchise. There is no question that Jeter doesn't have the best stats or ability. I don't think he's a HOFer. But what he is able to do is concentrate no matter the outside distractions, and that has to count for something.

i'm not knocking jeter's heart or talent

but i wouldnt knock other SS's either by saying that jeter has more heart than they do

this is young's 3rd year in the majors and his first two years' teams were flat horrible. not only that, but he played 2B for those two teams.

this is young's first year at SS and he has his team in 1st place .. . a team that was predicted by everyone to be dead last.

There were some pretty good parts on that '96 yankees team . . it wasnt the money team that it quickle became in the late '90s and current. but it wasnt lacking talent either.

my point is simply that, in my opinion, that catch the other day was not that great bbuddyyyyy (meant to sound like corby and the hardline for you P1s out there). it was a nice play. a top10 worthy play for the week. but it's nowhere near some of Jeter's other plays or other bigtime plays from this season by others. the only reason it is being hyped is because it came in a red sox/yanks game . . .the most overhyped rivalry in sports
