Interested to hear what the baseboard thinks of this hire?

Dude has pedigree for sure. I think it's a great hire of someone who gives every appearance of an up-and-comer.

New approach to development of our pitching staff from someone associated at the MLB level and a fresh young assistant on our staff. A little concerned about Max's recruiting potential but time will tell there.

I will be happy with any kind of improvement in our pitching staff next spring

So what's more Max? Johnson or Weiner?

Seems to be fantastic hire. Just what I've come to expect under Schloss.

Depends on whether you're English or German.
People think I'm an idiot or something, because all I do is cut lawns for a living.

Hard to judge as a fan when he hasn't been a college pitching coach and don't know specifics with the Mariners. I have a feeling he'll eventually have a successful career in baseball and hopefully it will include here. Trust in Schloss. I was excited about the Yeskie hire but underwhelmed by the output on the field the last 2 years.

Interesting hire for sure

I don't know anything about this guy

Upside?
-Brings youth to the program which might translate well with players and recruits
-Seems to have climbed the ranks quickly
-Brings MLB credibility and experience

Downside?
-He's half Schloss' age. I wonder how that will go
-Why leave the MLB when you are climbing fast, for the college ranks? Is it money?
-I've heard credible chatter since day 1 that Schloss is hard to work for. Heard some stuff too about him and Yeskie's deteriorating relationship. Is Max the best we could do? Does Schloss have a "rep"?

I choose to trust the Head Coach. He knows he was brought here to win and I don't think he's messing around. I don't think he would have hired Max if he didn't think he would be great

I left it over the middle of the damn plate. Glad you hit it.

Then why does he have so many long term assistants in his career?

He hasn't exactly churned through assistants over the years at tcu or here.

Nobody wants to win a championship more than Schloss. Why I'd trust his judgment of who to hire at this point.

Not from Anyone creditable I'd wager… tbh Nolan and Coach Earley could leave any day of the year and have a job at mlb or d1 level in less than a week…

You'd lose that wager

But like I stated above, I choose to trust Schloss with this hire

He's not the first guy to do this. Lots of travel in pro ball, and outside of traveling with the big league club, it's not the easiest travel. And, it's a long season which starts with a couple of months of spring training on the road. It can really wear on people.

Hoping he can do for Cortez what he did for Miller.

I haven't heard anything like that and I'm pretty close to the program.

Seattle's pitching staff handled the Stros pretty well taking 3 out of 4 over the weekend.

Also a perfect situation to bring in NIL money from Oscar Mayer.

To be fair, they mostly handled the sugar land lineup, but yes.

That is behind a paywall, but it might be accessible on a limited number of views basis. Either way, it is a big part of the reason that I am excited about the hire. The article doesn't go into any type of philosophy or method, but there is definitely something real in the results from a development and programming perspective. I am excited to see what Weiner can do here and think it's a great hire.

From a recruiting perspective, there is likely to be a learning curve for him. But I have to believe that being able to look at a prospective player (and family) and say "You see that young MLB pitcher? Here is what I did with and for him to help get him there." is a huge recruiting advantage.

They have two uniformed pitching coaches in Seattle. Was he traveling with them as well? Sounded an analyst job from how I read it.

I assume he would go to the minor league affiliates part of the time, but I suppose he could have done all, or most of it, through video.

I would bet there was a ton of unglamorous minor league travel.
