So how'd they put up 22 on Alabama?

I don't think there is anything wrong with saying or thinking their showing has been disappointing, they're slumping, etc.

But saying they're a mid pack SEC team, overrated, etc. is dumb. They made it to the CWS, they made it to the final 4 teams. Even if they get shut out today, they're a pretty damn good team that had a solid year. Is it possible they expected more? Absolutely. Doesn't mean they were just overrated coming into this point....

The thing is it's baseball. I'd wager the majority of years the best team in the MLB doesn't win the WS. Last year, Ole Miss had a losing record in the SEC. Teams get hot, teams get cold. Baseball also has a lot to do with luck. Luck in match ups, luck in how the ball bounces, etc.

This. Things happen differently in the post season. Sometimes for the good (LSU avoiding a bullpen meltdown, which they saw regularly during the season) and sometimes for the bad (WF not hitting). You never know -- they might start hitting tonight. If you play enough games, teams tend to revert to their mean. Look at A&M -- we couldn't sustain what we did in Hoover; once we went to Palo Alto, our season long pitching problems returned.

They went home run derby in their park against Bama. They can certainly do that any day of the week, but on average they haven't done that away from their park this year outside of 3 games against crap teams. 60 of their "Away" runs were in 3 games.

Yes, luck has a lot to do with it and is a good reason they are still playing right now due to Stanford's baserunning brain farts and a lightning delay that forced Stanford to take out their best pitcher.

Like I said 20 pages ago, the beauty of Omaha is its simplicity. It's the fact that it doesnt have a wrap around scoreboard, that it does have an open aired view, that it doesn't have a sponsor for every mound visit, that it doesnt have noisemakers and loud music, that it's not crazy expensive, etc. etc. I could bring the organ home and play it in my house.
If they wanted a view of downtown, then the ballpark should have been built southwest of downtown. As it is, fans in the lower deck have a view of the convention center, if they have any view at all. For most fans, the view of downtown at Omaha is like the mythical view of the Flat Irons in Boulder -- you can only see it from a small part of the venue.

If you don't like a wrap around scoreboard, close Mike Fahey Street, and build a hotel the circles the ballpark on that closed street, and parking lot C. It doesn't have to be something garish -- it just needs to block the wind.
I hate the idea of a wraparound scoreboard. It is the open air that makes it so pleasant. Plus its always hot and breaking the wind doesnt sound like the best idea for fans. Not to mention if you give a marketing idiot a wraparound scoreboard it will inevitably become chalk full of lights, flashing things, and other distractions that take away from the experience.

But I don't get why so many people think it is so important to turn it into a hitters park. There were I think 32 homeruns hit last year and have been I think 20 so far this year in what, 12 games? The ball will go out. It does all the time. Who cares if it is generally a pitchers ballpark.

IMO Omaha should play to the averages of college baseball. College baseball averaged a bit over 1 home run per game. But both UF and LSU had hit more home runs than any team in school history so I would expect there to be more home runs this year.

It shouldn't be a huge outlier that plays so much different than other parks.

But then again I think it should move around and not be in Omaha every year.

I generally prefer well pitched, low scoring games, but the park at Omaha is too great a departure from the normal college field. It would be like playing the Final Four with the NBA three second lane and three point line.

Listen I'll say it again. Wake is a mid level SEC regular season team. Remember fellas a mid level SEC team has won this thing so relax. The best team rarely wins the CWS. It is who is playing the best. Wake is good but they aren't some 2nd coming of some great great team who has showed up on Omaha dirt. Not even close

Sometimes I wonder how much ball and history of college BB some of you have …….

I will let it go, and I do not necessarily disagree with a lot of what you are saying, though I think the 'problem' is over stated.

I would caution anyone wanting to make any crazy changes or even moving to different cities every year. For whatever flaws Omaha has, it is still hands down the best baseball experience in the country. Omaha does a fantastic job protecting that. One day someone is going to convince someone that it should leave Omaha and it will destroy the CWS.

It is not perfect but it should absolutely be left alone.

No chance it would work. Zero.

If you are interested in noisemakers, 5 second clips of songs between pitches, ribbon scoreboards for your entertainment, half empty MLB stadiums, astroturf, sponsors for every mound visit and pitching change, $14 beers and $10 waters, tickets costing three times more, and host cities that are not interested anymore than they are for the next big event, then yes it would work.

Omaha protects it from ideas like that.

The NCAA? Really?

The same NCAA that does exactly what I said would happen to every other major championship they control?

Love Omaha and the field is fine (a bit smaller outfield would be nice, but just a preference-all good as is.) No way it should move IMO. The only thing I would suggest that would be a welcome addition would be shade! lol. If they could incorporate shade for the outfield stands specifically somehow it would be perfect...

You are fixated on this wrap around scoreboard. It could be any kind of structure. If you want a college field where there is a structure which can knock down the wind, there is a ballpark in Brazos County that reportedly has a rather large beige brick building that blocks a northwest wind (but not a northeast wind).

Omaha is Disneyland for baseball and its an intrinsic part of college baseball culture. moving it from site to site would kill the Magic.

I will begrudgingly listen to debates about the stadium itself (I miss rosenblatt) but I will not entertain any tomfoolery about the Road to Omaha becoming the Road to location to be determined at a later date

There is no alternative. Change for change sake does not provide the benefits that are assumed. Omaha is perfect. There are no "alternatives".

I like Omaha for tradition and would vote to keep it that way, BUT it would be nice to not have weather play a factor in a neutral site event that determines your champion. It hasn't been that bad this year, but still impacted 1 game. Supposed to be a major storm Saturday morning as well.

The weather delays we had were spent at Nosh right across from the Courtyard. Had a waitress who had martini pitchers for us for like 20 bucks.

Have had a storm come through where they sent everybody down to storm cellars (we do not have those here). We walked back to the hotel and were fine. Kind of added to the experience.

And I think that one day off is fine. If you are out there you are beginning to run out of underwear and socks.

If you are blessed to go to Omaha for the CWS, it is maybe the closest to heaven on earth I have experienced.

No way to avoid weather delays except with a roof, and that truly would be a huge departure from other college venues. Omaha is a great host. The ballpark is not perfect, and could certainly be tweaked to make it better. Rosenblatt changed a lot over the years, and you didn't hear many complaints about that.

I agree, when you have earned home field advantage, etc, (ala MLB playoff series) but in a neutral site environment where you want to determine the national champion without external factors having momentum killing impact and screwing up pitching rotations it sucks. Particularly when it isn't even weather and just lightning miles away.

A CWS in San Diego would be awesome.
