I believe in Dettmer, but I also believe in Johnny fullstaff. Coach will have everyone who is available on a very short leash.
Our guys needed a 40" bat to hit those "strikes".Wabs said:Probably would be better off spending your energy coaching your team to make adjustments to what blue is calling. Blue last night was consistently calling the outside ball against us.flyrancher said:
Has it occurred to you folks that the quality of the plate umpire plays way too much importance in the outcome of the game compared to other aspects?
A coach needs to put more effort into scouting the umpires than scouting the other team. The strike zone of some of these guys is so subjective and situational, an observer has no clue what an individual call might be. Their work on the bases appears pretty good to me, but subjectivity rears it's ugly head when they get behind the plate.
It also greatly matters with respect to the style of pitcher and his particular "out" pitch. Even if called identically both ways (it wasn't), the impact can be far greater on some pitchers.trouble said:
It plays into it a lot esp if one pitcher is consistently getting calls that another is not.
Crowd the plate and battle (foul off) anything on the outside with 2 strikes. If blue is going to consistently call that pitch, it's up to us to adjust whether we like it or not.Ag-Yoakum95 said:Our guys needed a 40" bat to hit those "strikes".Wabs said:Probably would be better off spending your energy coaching your team to make adjustments to what blue is calling. Do we know who is behind the plate tonight? Which game did they last call? What was his zone like?BeatHellOutOfTU said:Wabs said:Crowd the plate and battle (foul off) anything on the outside with 2 strikes.
