I have a serious question not intended to be critical of what some predict based on SEC tournament play.

Why do you think that (short of winning it all) tournament play matters given what history has shown the past two years in basketball?

My gut tells me that we are either in or out at this point and that success in the conference tournament will not have an effect

While conference tournaments typically are not the deciding factor on whether a team gets in or not, comparing the SEC basketball tournament to baseball is apples to oranges. The SEC is far and away the best baseball conference and is held in high regard, so winning games in the SEC baseball tournament carries more weight than basketball.

I tend to agree. Unless we win the tournament and get the auto berth.

IMO it's more about other bid stealers than it is about us in Hoover. The bubble is weak but if a few other tournies have major upsets, 0-1 in Hoover will make Monday uncomfortable.

I can agree with that up to the point that we lost the last game of tournament 2 years in basketball. If we had won it all it would have been different. Or again in my mind. Just win. The rest will take care of itself. I love watching these guys as I do football and basketball. GIGEM and kick***

One major point is Georgia and Missouri not winning the tournament. Keep the bid stealing to a minimum.

I would generally agree that 90 to 95% of the regional hosts and at-large bids have already been assigned

and only very deep tournament runs (to the conference tournament final at least) and bid-stealers will change things for bubble teams

A win against RPI #16 Tennessee at a neutral site would do us a lot of good. If we were to follow that up with a neutral site loss to #3 Arkansas, it wouldn't hurt us much (if at all). That would leave us 1-1 and in a position to punk whoever our next opponent is, and I would feel good about this 3rd game.

But even if we were to lose it and go 1-2, it would still be better than going 0-1. That's losing the play-in game to the SEC tournament.

Interesting stat

I'm hoping the baseball gods have set this up in order to allow us to avenge our SEC series losses for the season. First we take care of Vols, then piggie, then swamp kitty, then either piggie or kitty again and finally Gump in the Championship Game. Hey, nothin' wrong about wishing for some sweet revenge.

Now more realistically, really would like to get two Ws this week. I'd feel a lot better following the selection show next Monday if the team could pull this off.

I am feeling good about a Tuesday Game against Tenn. They played 1 on friday and 2 on saturday. Their #1 starter will have one less day rest than us. In the second game on the SEC Channel Saturday, Kyle Peterson said that Tenn. was going to stay in Columbia sat. night and bus over to Hoover. That's a 6 hour bus ride. Can't help but think that might have some effect on how sharp they may be in an early tuesday afternoon game.

I think bid stealing would need to go pretty deep to hit us. I think we're locked into the 3 in Dallas or Austin.

I like the fight that was shown while playing CLANGA. I hope we have turned the corner and will win. BTHO EVERYBODY!!

Indeed. Between the two Sat games I believe I read relievers accounted for a total of 2 1/3 innings. They will be full strength.

Every bracket I have seen, whether BA or D1 has us a 3 seed. Why are so many here still with their panties in a wad over the SEC tourney?

Past experiences with committees

While we can quibble whether or not if the Baseball Selection Committees of the past have screwed us in seeding and matchups, I can't recall a single time where a deserving Aggie baseball team has been left out of the tournament since it has been expanded to 64 teams in '99. I think we are currently on the correct side of the bubble but there are still games that can improve their resumes of other teams or unexpected winners of the various conference tourneys this week that could push us to the wrong side. I would feel a lot more comfortable in hearing Texas A&M on Selection Monday if the team can get a W or two in Hoover this weekend.

The choice is 3 seed or out as we won't be a 4. The only questions are how close to the bubble we are and how many bid stealers come from the tourneys.

We can be mostly in now but the kicker is there are many scenarios out of our control where we miss. Call it what you will. I'm just being pragmatic.

The 4 seeds are entirely automatic qualifiers from 1 bid leagues. Each year there are a very small handful of 3 seeds that are also AQs. The bottom few 3 seeds would be the equivalent to a 12 seed in the basketball tournament.

That said, I think we are more so at the middle to upper half of the 3 seed pack imo (more of like a ~10 seed equivalent). Just my estimation.
