That's me too. Half the time I don't know what the pitcher did. I've been watching baseball since the 80's. I had to watch three times to see it.

I think this is in large part because umps have let the game get away from them over the last 15+ years. They've let pitchers, relievers in particular, get away with murder with their crazy twitchy, stop-start-stop-start again deliveries that no one knows what will actually be called any more.

I've wondered this too. I see a lot of pitchers lift their heel repeatedly or rock back and forth and it isn't called a balk. What am I missing?

It should be called. Coaches will argue that it's a natural part of their pitcher's motion though.

But umpires have to crack down on that now or pitchers will use it to cheat the pitch clock even when no one's on base. It happened in mlb spring training a couple of times. I think Sticky Fingers Scherzer was one of the culprits.

I agree but I don't really expect them to do it.

LSU has had several guys who balked every pitch.

Morris Hodges and I got into one time about it. Between innings he walked over and to,d me it was his natural motion. I told him it would not be allowed in MLB. He got mad and walked away.

Would tap his toe before each pitch heading home and did it then picked off Krey Bratson at first.

In the SEC, elite baseball and softball pitchers often get away with balks and illegal pitches. If they're in the opposing dugout it can get maddening. Last weekend during the Missouri series at Davis Diamond, Lauren Krings - Mizzou's ace - pitched illegal the whole time. She rocks back and brings both feet completely off the rubber before she starts her forward motion. She's a flamethrower but is allowed to get away with a lot.
