Must have win and Haas delivers the big knock! He's been so good this year in every phase. Thompson has also been stepping up offensively of late, which really helps with Kaufer beginning to log some better at bats in the books.
Concerns are ample. The top half of the lineup went .176 against Tarleton tonight, with one of those hits coming from Minnich who left the game due to injury. Werner-Bost-Targac go 0-fer, which happens far too often. Every spot in the lineup (outside WBT) is either hitting or improving their average week to week but it is so glaring that the three amigos just can't figure out how to get base hits. Bost seems to be a victim of hitting it right at people or leaving it at the warning track over and over much of the season, but Werner and Targac just look like easy outs at the plate with no confidence. No way Schloss is benching Werner due to his defense and occasional power display at the plate, but Targac is just a liability anywhere you put him in the line up. With Minnich presumably out indefinitely with a shoulder injury, Schloss can't afford to keep Targac in the lineup any longer. I'm not sold on Wells in RF, but Chestnut/Tucker/Kent/Tracy appear to be chomping at the bit for more opportunities and I hope they get them while Targac sits the bench from here out.
Hopefully Minnich is back soon, Werner and Bost turn things around with the bats, the rest of the lineup doesn't fall into a slump, and the pitching staff hits a sustained trajectory of improvement. But we'll need all of those things to see any meaningful post season play and that is a very tall order.
