Well this just seems unimaginably stupid. Just a terribly run organization with yet another own goal.

Even dumber that it seemingly only applies to baseball. Like what in the world are they trying to do? And why? Meanwhile football been offering 8th graders since Mack was winning at tu...

Softball and a number of other NCAA sports have had this rule for years. It'll be an adjustment but it'll be fine. Calm down

Calm down? LOL OK guy I will!

Not un-calm at all. It just seems very not necessary. And while 8th almost certainly too early this feels too late. Kendall seems to be very pro the move which is good because I know he has the best interest of the sport in mind, but this this feels like the age is too old...

There's been a movement for years to pull back on early recruiting. A lot of coaches really hated it and a lot of parents hated it too.

Did they calibrate it right? We'll see. Baseball was one of the last remaining NCAA sports that didn't outlaw incoming phone calls until at least June 15 before junior year. Coaches already couldn't call until 9/1 of Junior year

Seriously. Is this intended to drive more high profile kids to MLB over playing in college?

No, MLB is scaling back on minor league players, I think they have to go from 180 to 165. The 180 was down from around 250 a couple of years ago. They see the value of college players and want to use that as a defacto development league. That's the jest I'm getting.

It's probably more to prevent the 8th or 9th grade superstar that doesn't continue growing and developing getting dumped just before signing day.

I like it. Allows Coaches to focus on older kids and maybe have some more time off during the year. Also gives some of the later bloomers a better chance of getting noticed.

They'll also be less inundated with communications from kids and parents trying to sell them.

I think it is fine too.

Some dumb ideas are also benign.

Academically the senior year of high school already is superfluous unless the student is taking dual credit or college courses. So the decision to limit to August of junior year basically acknowledges decisions need to be made that year and likely does tone down contacts.

I guess when I think about it my sense of outrage loses its grip…

Reason #43 to get rid of the NCAA.

How does this affect camps?

If a sophomore goes to, let's say, a Vanderbilt camp, can the coaches talk to him?

In Softball coaches can talk to recruits at camps.

KR's comment is that they can talk, but they cannot offer or recruit... seems like a very fine line. Oh, and it's retroactive as well. Meaning no further communication with anyone not currently a junior even if already committed, etc...

Every HS coach and summer showcase coach/program I've seen thinks the no contact until junior year move is a really good and necessary move.

How many softball players are getting drafted out of high school & not playing in college?

Another questions- I assume this is aug 1st at the start of a kids junior year, not Aug 1st at the end of their junior year.

Is this correct?

Why does that matter to the recruiting timeline?

Yes. August 1 at start of your junior year.

College coaches were the lobbyists for this change.

Yeah I saw that earlier today. Glad that the coaches and KR are on-board. As I said earlier that probably means it's a good thing. It still feels a little late for me for I'm happy to be wrong.
