SEC instituting a 10-run rule this year for baseball

Thoughts on this? It effectively means that pitching better bring their A-game to every conference game. How many last year would have triggered this rule? I seem to recall a whippin' that we issued Georgia.

I looked it would have come into play 2 times for us last season. 1 win, 1 loss

At only 11.7 scholarships, this is probably a good rule for college baseball.

I know we run-ruled DBU on a Tuesday night last year and Florida run-ruled us in the SECT. I can't recall if we had other games in 2022 that would have needed the run rule.

But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:31 (NIV)

Vandy was up 10 after 8. We would've got Georgia middle of a big inning in the top of 9th.

For college baseball I'm not a fan of this.

they wouldn't have stopped the game in the top of the 9th, UGA would have gotten a bat, so this would have applied in 1 game for us last year, that 1-11 game at Vandy

Not a fan, but it didn't come into play all that often in the Big 12, and I'd expect it to come into play even less in SEC play.

This is one of those pat themselves on the back rule. They can tell everybody they're looking out for the best of the athlete.

If it helps the student athletes to be more competitive in the classroom, I support the rule change.

I don't like it. Sometimes, even if you lose a game early in the series, you can still try to burn the other team's pitching and use it to set yourself up to win the next game. One thing I've always loved about baseball is that you have to get those 27 outs. Nobody's out there to save you. No clock to run down. You have to work and get your outs. And as long as you have one out left, there is always, always a chance to win. Well. Not anymore.

I don't expect this will come into play very much, but it's not great for the sport.

When you are on the winning end of it the "extra" inning or two allows you to possibly get some bench guys into games that wouldn't normally get in. Good experience. I guess you can say that too for the losing team as well. That is a down side to it for sure.

I can see where it helps with game length and saving some arms for the series.

Overall, I don't like it though especially in an SEC series.
