If my notes are somewhat accurate:

Kaikea Harrison transferred before coming to campus, and Joseph Powell retired. Evan Godwin and Dillon Janac who were JC transfers did not make it along with freshmen recruits: Cade Climie, Bryson Dudley, Blake Hansen, Colin Linder, and Mason Ruiz.

In their places we picked up additional catchers in Hank Bard and Cameron Donley. We also added Tab Tracy from Houston.

And in no surprise, Conner Weigman has not been listed on the roster.

Thank you for the summary. Looking through the roster, I thought players whose names I'd read previously were not listed, but couldn't remember who.

Any idea why CW isn't listed?

Because he hasn't had a chance to practice with the team.

I know that I am biased, but reading that list of names like that made me say "whoa". We have the chance to win a lot of baseball games with that group of guys, and I'm pretty sure that we will win a lot of "getting off the bus" contests, too. And who am I kidding, I don't care about being biased.

I think it comes down to the pitching. Last year, we were incredibly thin on the mound but got just enough pitching at just the right time. It will be hard to do that again. We need for the pitching to step up in class in a big way. I think we've got the pieces to do that, but they have to actually get it done.

Tom, from what I've personally seen and also heard from well connected sources, I think our pitching will be pretty damn good.
Cortez it touching 100mph and has developed two other pitches that I know of.
We're about at solid across the board as I've seen us in quite a while. By that I mean fielding, pitching, and hitting.

When we're much better on offense (compared to the RC years), the pitching doesn't have to be dominant. I completely agree that we need it to be a little better than last year, but I do like the fact that our pitchers aren't forced to consistently hold teams to 2 runs in order for us to win.

it is amazing to look back and see that A&M's top 2 starters last year had 4.99 and 5.21 ERAs

if the top 2 starters this year can post...let's say...3.50 and 3.75...the Ags should be in great shape

and of course the COVID year / super-senior phenomenon will still be a big part of college baseball in 2023

but we are one year closer to the end of the free COVID year effect

Our daughter (no rule #1) is dating a DBU baseball player and he's in his 5th collegiate season. If not drafted this summer, he could play again in 2024. He got the free Covid year plus had a medical redshirt due to Tommy John surgery. The guy could have his masters degree completed before his final baseball season.

On premium someone linked an article about an Oregon football player that was granted a 9th year of eligibility. He was a fish when Obama was president.

I assume Jace Hutchins is the son of our head of baseball operations (Jason Hutchins)?

If so, it looks like he went from College Station HS to t.u. And then back to A&M.

I'm sure there is an interesting backstory there.

He actually went to Blinn before tu. Childress did not recruit him so there you go.

I remember Hutch talking about that a bit.

I don't want to rehash the past but really, WTF was Childress doing? We had zero strategic approach to the plate, he struggled to recruit bats, and there were a whole damn lot of pitchers that made you scratch your head. Jace was like 6'5" 195# throwing about 88 in HS and you could see that as he filled out he would throw serious gas. Now he's like 6'5" 220# and throwing 95.

Childress did not recruit Josh Stewart either. Who he chose to recruit and not recruit was a definite head scratcher at times.

it is fair to wonder what the previous coaching staff was doing the last 5 years.

they went so pitching-heavy...when the best A&M teams of the SEC era...have been the ones that could mash.

the clubs that could still win the Sunday rubber games after the bullpen had run out of gas

The catcher from Cincy retired. That is one reason the freshman catcher graduated early and will be enrolling in January.

I am a little confused. Are you criticizing Childress for not having Jace on our team earlier?

To an extent yes. Not necessarily Hutchins specifically but the strategic approach overall.

This seems very weird to be going after Childress regarding a player that went to Blinn and then never played an inning for Texas. Posters have stated that he need to put on weight and develop more. The path to Blinn might have been the very best course for Jace. Now that he has filled out and developed more hopefully he becomes a force on the mound for the Ags. But to use this situation as affirmation against Childress recruiting just seems odd.

I'm saying Childress should have recruited him out of Blinn and didn't. I get that he didn't pitch at tu due to covid but if he was good enough for tu to sign out of Blinn he was definitely good enough for us.

Covid had nothing to do with him not pitching at t.u. Nothing.
