I heard the same thing about the exit meetings…a blood bath, just ruthless. Several will be in the portal soon, if true.
This, I believe, was the source of most of the negative talk about Schloss before he was hired. I don't think it's possible to go through this process without hurting kids feelings, but Schloss may be a little bit more blunt than some guys.

IMHO...yes, players should consider Juco or even lower tier D1s/D2s for playing time. My son was a D1 recruit (Wake Forest) out of HS but after a couple of Juco stops will be going to Angelo State this fall. It was very difficult decision because he really feels he's a D1 player but he wants to be able to play and get further development. Unfortunately, these are difficult times for baseball players who want to play D1, even the mid to lower tier programs. We are excited by his decision but it was difficult for him initially.

I know exactly who your son is. Enjoyed watching him pitch in HS. Great kid!

Schloss touched on the difficult conversations in his interview today. He also mentioned the MLB draft being moved to the all-star break makes college coaches jobs harder with forecasting the roster next year.

Your son is one of thousands in the same boat. My son was as well. Ultimately the things that will stand the test of time are the relationships that your son develops during his baseball journey. That's what is really important. It's also much more fun to play in a winning program that competes for conference, regional, and national championships. And he will get that at Angelo State. The dog piles are just as fun at D2 as they are at D1. If he has draft talent it will be noticed. D2 is a much more player friendly existence than D1 IMO. Hopefully it works out well for him and he looks back on it as the best decision he ever made.

Schloss' interview on TexAgs radio on Monday was a great listen and relevant to this thread.

He said the 72 hours or so since being eliminated were the toughest of his coaching career. Said the discussions with current players and some recruits were brutal and it's an unfair situation for the players and their families. The new timing with the draft and the extra eligibility took a tough process and made it that much harder.

The interview addresses alot of the topics mentioned on the 3 pages of this topic. Schloss is not the only coach out there making these decissions. It's happening across the board across the country. We have expanded rosters due to covid and an MBL draft that cut rounds down as well. That is forcing more kids to stay and is causing a log jam on all these roster. Add that MLB draft is after the scholarship money has to be allocated for those staying with the teams and you have a perfect storm. The biggest problem is MLB with the late draft and the reduced draft. Covid players will not be flushed until after 2024 I believe. Brauny this morning mentioned that many players are reaching out and asking for a spot now and saying they want no money... This is a crazy crazy time for college sports. The NCAA refuses to lead

The NCAA will never lead. I'm interested to see how the draft goes for us

That's a great story! It's about to be the golden era for D2 and juco. By now, everyone knows someone who has been burned by the transfer rule and over stuffed rosters. It's part of the game but I think it will make non-P5 options look a lot shinier to recruits.

Sadly, it's a vicious cycle, and those good D2 players will take advantage of the portal when it's their time. Definitely a wild time to be a player.
