IMHO...yes, players should consider Juco or even lower tier D1s/D2s for playing time. My son was a D1 recruit (Wake Forest) out of HS but after a couple of Juco stops will be going to Angelo State this fall. It was very difficult decision because he really feels he's a D1 player but he wants to be able to play and get further development. Unfortunately, these are difficult times for baseball players who want to play D1, even the mid to lower tier programs. We are excited by his decision but it was difficult for him initially.
Your son is one of thousands in the same boat. My son was as well. Ultimately the things that will stand the test of time are the relationships that your son develops during his baseball journey. That's what is really important. It's also much more fun to play in a winning program that competes for conference, regional, and national championships. And he will get that at Angelo State. The dog piles are just as fun at D2 as they are at D1. If he has draft talent it will be noticed. D2 is a much more player friendly existence than D1 IMO. Hopefully it works out well for him and he looks back on it as the best decision he ever made.
That's a great story! It's about to be the golden era for D2 and juco. By now, everyone knows someone who has been burned by the transfer rule and over stuffed rosters. It's part of the game but I think it will make non-P5 options look a lot shinier to recruits.
Sadly, it's a vicious cycle, and those good D2 players will take advantage of the portal when it's their time. Definitely a wild time to be a player.
