It just occurred to me that the 2022 Tennessee baseball team is a carbon copy of the 1986 Mets (talent, behavior, wild ass manager) minus the hardware. Lol.

Can you elaborate please? I've been a Met fan since 1967 and I don't see the similarities. Maybe you're thinking of the teams managed by Bobby V? Davey Johnson, in my opinion, was 180 degrees different than Tony V.

They won the SEC East and SEC Tournament. They got some good hardware this year.

Hardware that doesn't matter one bit. Hardware they would gladly trade just for a trip to the CWS, much less a national title.

So maybe like the 87 or 88 Mets?

There are certainly a few Lenny Dykstras on the Vols. Which of their players is Darryl Strawberry?
Agsuffering@bulaw
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Dykstra may have been a loudmouth, but he was also a gamer. They had other gamers like Gary Carter, Keith Hernandez, etc. strawberry and Gooden were coke heads, but they competed on the field.

I say UT is more like some of those Oakland bash brother teams that got beat by inferior opponents.

When I think of the '86 Mets, I think of the cocaine usage, drinking in the dugout, a story about one of the lowlifes on that team putting a gun to the head of Tim Teufel's dog.

Interesting that you bring that up. Recently I watched an ESPN program on the 86 Mets. I had no idea how rampant the alcohol and drug use was. When the Mets flew back to NYC after beating the Astros in 6, the boozing and drugging on that flight was mentioned. United Airlines billed the Met organization thousands of dollars for the damage they did to that plane.

I'm certainly not an advocate of that type of behavior, and I still fail to see the connection to this year's Tennessee team. In fact, I'd say the Tennessee team were alter boys in comparison.

I don't know enough about the players on that roster to have an opinion outside of thinking that it's one hell of a statement to make about a group's collective character.

I seem to remember hearing about '86 Mets players having sex with groupies in the tunnel during games as well...

Since you ponied up for ESPN+ dabo, the documentary that Toddy mentions is available to you; Once Upon a Time in Queens. As an Astros fan, parts of it will be painful.

About ten years ago, I was driving in downtown Houston and saw a car with the Texas license plate
86 Mets.
It was all I could do not to get the tire iron out of my trunk and break his windshield.

At the time, losing to the Mets was less painful to me than the Phillies loss had been six years earlier. As the years went on, and I heard more and more stories about the '86 Mets, my hatred for them grew. It's the one I think about now when I look back at childhood Astros disappointment.

Typical Dallas area fan who can not let a mention of any Houston team go without comment. Now who is insufferable?
dabo man

As I was called an insufferable Astros fan a while back, I feel the need to clarify. I grew up a massive Astros fan and remained one through about 2008 or 2009.

At some point not long after that, they created their own sports network, which was not picked up by Suddenlink, DirecTV, or Dish, so I couldn't watch them any more. After Milo retired, I couldn't stand to listen to Brett and Dave (I think I have those names right). I was no longer following the Astros for the first time... really ever.

When Jim Crane emerged as a buyer for the Astros, Forbes magazine wrong a long, detailed article that raised a lot of questions about his ethics and integrity. This was around 2012 I believe, and I'm sure the article is still easy to find on google. I've never heard any of these questions answered. Then the Astros announced they were moving to the AL; a league I'd never followed at all.

In August 2013, I moved to Missouri and adopted the NL Cardinals as my team. I did root like hell for the Astros during the 2017 World Series. After the surveillance scandal, I only question Jim Crane's character more, and I am forever done with them as long as he's the owner. All of the Houston-area sports fans saying that the 2017 scandal is nothing new are utterly delusional. They used an HD video camera to steal signals. That is *completely* different than a runner (or any other team member) trying to steal them the old-fashioned way.

I'll step off my soap box now.

RedSox, Yankees, and Dodgers all got popped for doing the same before the Astros. Edit: their 'getting busted' just came after the Astros.

This is a recorded fact now and an inconvenience for holier-than-thou big market team fans that want to make excuses for the little ole Astros being consistently great for the past 6 years (without sign stealing).

And don't get me started on the Cardinals that have been busted recording practices and stealing sign cards for years before the HD camera thing ever came around.

Some people just can't help but show their ignorance.

Go Stros and fk the haters.

You know, I think every individual is a 'homer' to some degree when it comes to 'their' team.

These are the teams in which 'I'm a homer....'

Euless Trinity Football
New York Rangers
New York Mets
Dallas Stars
Dallas Mavericks
New York Giants

and of course....

A&M Football
A&M Men's & Women's Basketball
A&M Men's Baseball

I will admit, to a varying degree, I lose a portion of my sense of logic when following any of these teams. And as I result, I have my periods of 'insufferable.' Fortunately, I don't hold on to it forever, thanks goodness!

Didn't the Cardinals' Director of Baseball Operations get sentenced to almost four years in federal prison for five counts of unauthorized access of a protected computer (hacking the Houston Astros' player personnel database and email system)?

https://www.nytimes.com/2016/07/19/sports/baseball/christopher-correa-a-former-cardinals-executive-sentenced-to-four-years-for-hacking-astros-database.html

Sweet team to adopt and scold the Astros with for improprieties. Also you were never an Astros fan if you could casually adopt their tormentor. It's like a Yankees fan said, eh, I moved to Boston and started rooting for the Red Sox.

I would like to remind Father Houston that they have won exactly 1 world series and it took one of the biggest cheating scandals in the history of baseball for them to do so.

Therefore, unless it actually happens, I would like to suggest that it's impossible for Father Houston to win a world series fairly and legitimately.
