That's too long. I can only think of two reasons:

1. Pitchers that struggle to throw strikes.
2. A horribly inconsistent strike zone.
3. Replay reviews. Wish we didn't have it

I suspect no. 1 is a product of no. 2.

You can't control it. Deal.

4. Dwell time between pitches, to include timeouts and throws the first

I think reviews are okay. In the age of replays and good cameras, bad calls are going to be exposed. If it helps make the right call, Im for it.

Get real. If you didn't enjoy tonight's game, you need a new hobby. It was close to the greatest five hours I have ever spent in my life, with my boys (class of '23 and '25) on each side of me at Olsen. Hell, an 80+ year old man the row below me made it start to finish and loved every minute.

So happy for these young men and their coaches.
Remember they were picked to come in 13th in the conference.
Just be happy for them. Quit complaining..

You ain't kidding. Some people on this board just aren't happy unless they are complaining about something.

These late-regional games can get like this. Usually it's one team running out of pitching.

Tonight they ran out and we got thin. And home plate umpire sucked.

Did you not watch and follow many Aggie Baseball games this season?

I remember the LSU and several other SEC Conference games lasting well over four hours each. Tonight was nothing, especially considering it was a regional championship game and we won, making the length of the game irrelevant.

Length is important for some things in life; not for Aggie Baseball games.

It was probably hard to post, too.

The longer the game lasts the better chance this team has to win.

It's like the texas weather, you don't like what you are experiencing at the moment, give it a few minutes and it will change.

Baseball is In a no-win situation. Either the game has a lot of runs and people complain the game is too long, or the game has few runs, is short, and people complain the game is too boring

Don't mind long games, but any future baseball game with TCU needs to start at 11am.

The time of the pitcher throwing a pitch and batter getting ready to hit has increased immensely.

The game had 300 pitches thrown last night. Cut down the BS on each pitch (WAG 15 seconds) and this is equal to 90 minutes.

I don't think the game is broken, or even close to it, not I also don't have a problem with keeping the batter in the box. I think unless you swing you don't get a reset. Take a pitch? then keep your ass in the box. Foul one off or swing and miss? Ok you can step out and reset.

Yes 415 total pitches. A ton for a 9 inning game. They have the pitch clock but meaningless when you can do the fake throw to base and it resets.

The home plate umpire contributed greatly to the length. Wasn't giving anything on corners most all night. He was giving the crazy high pitches. And wasn't really that consistent either.

Big picture - for the long-term good of baseball (college and pro) - they do need to do something to shorten the games. I think the first step is to mandate the hitters stay in the box between pitches. This is learned and taught at the Select Ball level. These kids develop habits and routines when they are 10, 11, 12 years old and by the time they are in college, it's hard to change.

I certainly didn't mind sitting up 'til after midnight to watch the Ags advance, but if we're playing the long game here with the best future interests of the game in mind, something has to change to keep these games at 3 1/2 hours or so.

Full agree.

There were over 400 pitches last night. If the plate ump got serious about making batters from both teams get in the damned box and get set, saving (conservatively) 5 seconds per pitch, that game ends more than 30 minutes faster.

Yeah I woulda stayed up until 1am last night to watch the Ags beat the damn Frogs, but for the good of baseball the plate umps have to end the human rain delays between pitches.

It will be interesting to see if the rules they've implemented at the minor league level ever get brought to the MLB? Pitcher has a shorter pitch clock, I think around 15sec., the batter has one or a strike can be called and the pitcher can only pick off 3 times to the same runner and if the 3rd time does not get the runner out, it's a balk.

The games average around 2:45 and it's nice. They simply move along. Even a high scoring game takes only about 3 hours.

Didn't give a hoot about last night's though, it was fun to watch.

A higher scoring game usually results in a longer game. There was an even crazier game yesterday afternoon. Oklahoma State trailed Missouri State 12-0 before winning 29-15. With 44 combined runs scored, it was the highest-scoring game in NCAA Baseball Tournament history. As a ton of fans have pointed out in the comments, Oklahoma State and Missouri State actually met on the football field during the 2021 regular season. Oklahoma State's football team went on to beat their FCS counterparts 23-16 - scoring five points LESS between the two of them than the baseball teams.

https://thespun.com/more/top-stories/crazy-record-set-in-ncaa-baseball-tournament-on-sunday

The total length of the Missouri State vs Oklahoma State game was 5:01. Our game against TCU exceeded that mark, despite 20 fewer combined runs.
