I mean there are bat flips in an NCAA regional, after a 3 run blast late in a game where you are trying to eliminate the opponent and win the whole regional, and there are Tuesday night bat flips against a much lesser opponent.

I'm not a fan of them in general, but one scenario makes a lot more sense to me. Bat flips seem more theatrical than fist pumping at your teammates or crowd, but both are celebrations I guess.

Not a classy move, just put your head down, and get around the bases, that kind of bat-flip will backfire on him, and his team, one of these days.

I generally agree, but if you've ever played any sport, especially D1 anything, there's talk. There's always trash. It's part of the game.

Yes, it makes tou hate they guy alittle more if its against your team.

Yes, it makes you love the guy a little more if he's for your team.

But it's relatively harmless either way.

You just deal with it if you want to play. Or watch.

When you talk all the mess their starting pitcher was talking all game, you have to accept stuff like the bat flip as being well-deserved.
Absolutely. That's why I was laughing so hard when I saw it live.

Yes we are. That's the way it works

I was a D1 athlete, many years ago.

We were taught to respect our opponents which, at TAMU, we did.

Yes, occasionally there was some off-the-field unnecessary BS / needling / foul language, but we ignored it, we let our play on the field speak for itself.

Yes, times have changed, I understand that, but I don't like it.

As my best friend and TAMU Athletic Hall of Famer often said, "Just play the game, let it go, don't lower yourself to their level."

Kudos to the 11 year old, he nailed it.

Fact of the matter, the poster you quoted won letters playing baseball for the Aggies before most here were even born. His attitude might be "old fashioned" to many/most, but that does not make it wrong.

I just hope it's not borne out, as he predicts.

Whoa, someone's defensive!

Love the chastizing scoldy face!

I didn't question whether he'd ever played D1. I even agreed with him, but you decided to overlook that.

I am actually quite old fashioned myself.

But the bat flip was mostly harmless.

You can disagree. It's still America.

For a while.

If one of our pitchers is staring down the opposing dugout, I fully expect it.

Make sure you include that part. Rock didn't just flip his bat unprovoked.

I would be curious how so? Seriously, not needling.

I'm not a huge baseball guy so I'd like to know what kind of backfire could result? I know in this case that bat flip was a poke in the Frogs' eyes, but maybe understandable as a reaction to the antics of their pitcher earlier in the game. And really, after TCU rallied to regain the lead I kinda thought karma might be creeping around. But, in the heat of the moment, I loved it. There's a lot of history between these two teams.

Annnddd here we are after heckuva season winning our own regional as the #5 seed, we talkin about bat flipping. Come. On. Man.

Really wasn't a bat flip but a bat toss. I mean if we are going to be all critical and S.

Some people probably had a problem when our players did "horns down" after walking off the sips a couple years ago (or whenever that was) at Blue Bell and the benches cleared.

Screw em.

Louisville was down 2 with 2 out in the 8th earlier with a runner on. Kid hit a missile that he thought tied the game. He watched and bat flipped only to see the ball hit the top of the fence. He was called safe at 2nd. He was out and the review decided to shaft Michigan. That kid not running out of the box could have cost his team a trip to the Supers.

Bat flips don't bother me, but you better make damn sure it's gone.

By backfiring on him, I'm going back to what would happen when I played which, admittedly was a long time ago.

That is, Rock shows up the other team, mocks them, rubs it in their face, as I said, to me, crosses the line.

Back in "the day", many pitchers I know (I'd be one), would throw at him next time he came to the plate, not necessarily to hit him, but to send a message.

He could get hit by that pitch, get hurt, that's the last we need, he's our leader, our best offensive player.

That'll get the pitcher ejected and suspended for the next 4 games these days.

I doubt Rock would have done that if the starting frog pitcher hadn't been laughing, smirking, and yapping at our dugout all game.

I loved the TCU pitchers intensity including his smirks and loved when Rock flipped the bat in his face. It's sports and should be fun.
MMantle
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I agree with you, the Aggies / Rock were definitely provoked, no doubt about that.

It's just that I wouldn't have responded that way, I didn't play that way.

Yes, 4 game suspension.

But, I've seen coaches bring in a pitcher who's the last guy in his bullpen to throw at a hitter, if he gets tossed, not much of a loss.

Also, it was right in front of their dugout and I'm sure it was on purpose but he did it the moment the ball was out
