Game cancelled. Let the conspiracy theories commence!

A. We absolutely shouldn't play a game that only hurts us. I agree with whatever decision process was used in getting here.
B. It is insanely stupid that in the current system, winning a game can drop your ranking. Something needs to change
Derm: It ain't like it used to be!Quote:
Agree but do not remember it happening in the past unless weather related.
Oh, it's happened in the past. Even happened once in conference play when we were playing the final series at Ole Miss (deja vu); we had some rain issues, and rather than play a DH of 7 inning games, we played one game, then decided that we couldn't get the other game in. It was mutually beneficial to both to make that call.Aggie said:
I get it .. but we have canceled two games this season for no reason other than " well it doesn't benefit us"
Never in 30+ years of Aggie baseball have I seen one much less two games canceled for no reason
But this day age of me, me, me and transfer portal, and what do I get out of it, where is my ribbon… my son deserves to play 100% of the time…. Can't say it really surprises me

DBU has played 21 road games and 1 neutral game, which is plenty, but less than a lot of teams out there.dermdoc said:Agree.RikkiTikkaTagem said:

And something is wrong when schools like DBU game the schedule to get RPI points.
The only indicator I can think of as to whether that would happen is to look at TCU's nonconference schedule the last few years.JLammers said:
Any chance that, with the new staff, we might see higher quality OOC matchups?
We wouldn't need to go DBU with it, but I'd be happy to see us lose a couple more midweek games in a season if it meant good baseball games against decent teams.
It's not just a midweek problem... Fordham has been killing our RPI all season.
I feel like it's a losing situation when you find yourself rooting for the cancellation of baseball games in order to preserve RPI. I think there's a little more to it in this situation, but I'm also hoping that the program we end up with after another year or two of Schloss is capable of seeing more of the DBUs and less of the Incarnate Words without spreading ourselves too thin for the SEC slate.

In 2021, the played pre-conference weekend series (I'll exclude the one they played in the middle of the season due to the fact that the Big XII only has 9 baseball playing members, and non-conference tournaments) at home against Liberty and Gonzaga, and on the road against ULL.
I excluded tournaments because you don't have complete control over who is in the tournament field.TXAggie2011 said:Quote:

They also played at two tournaments last year--and at the Arlington tournament, they played Arkansas, Ole Miss, and Miss State.
I appreciate that.twk said:The only indicator I can think of as to whether that would happen is to look at TCU's nonconference schedule the last few years.JLammers said:

In 2020, they played at home against Kentucky, on the road against Minnesota, and at home against Cal.
In 2019, they played at home against Grand Canyon, on the road at Long Beach, and at home against Eastern Michigan.
In 2018, they played home series against Long Bech, UC Irvine, and Minnesota.
In 2017, they played at home against Penn State and Arizona State, then on the road at UC Irvine (and snuck in a Tuesday game against Long Beach as part of the same trip).
So, if I had to guess, I'd say that Schloss is likely to improve the schedule a bit over time.
If you give them a system to game…dermdoc said:RikkiTikkaTagem said:

This can't be right - tu is the best team in the history of college baseball.TXAggie2011 said:DBU has played 21 road games and 1 neutral game, which is plenty, but less than a lot of teams out there.dermdoc said:Agree.RikkiTikkaTagem said:

The Longhorns have played, for example, 22 road games and 3 neutral games.
DBU is #3 and Texas is a huge disappointment because DBU has won 14 of their 25 games with top 50 RPIs and Texas is 10-10.
If we'd won our nonconference games, we would have done well enough. The problem was losing to weak teams, moreso than playing them. If you go back and look at our record during the Childress era, whipping less than impressive non-conference teams never weighted down our RPI.drthoop said:
If the people that pick the hosts etc, are going to place so much emphasis on the RPI then we and others should learn to game it.
Take care of yourself, no-one else will.
William & Mary isn't that bad and Notre Dame wouldn't, by itself, harm their RPI by winning games at William & Mary.TAM85 said:
This and Notre Dame cancelling a three game series with William & Mary.
RPI is not good for college baseball and the committee placing much weight on it is a bad practice,
