How many one pitch outs does Texas A&M average (while batting)?

Then as a follow-up...how many 3 pitch outs?

Then a related question...how many total pitches does Texas A&M opponents average per game vs. what Texas A&M pitchers average?

You're reading my mind. I'm not a "Fire MJ" guy by any means, but that is my #1 complaint of MJ coached teams...impatience at the plate. I don't mean just this year...I mean as long as I can remember (15+ years).

I've never seen a team as bad as A&M about

a.) swinging at the first pitch

- or -

b.) making a weak out on the first pitch, a 2-0 or 3-1 count.

I'm of the mindset that if you swing at the first pitch or on 2-0 or on 3-1, you damn well better be getting a pitch to drive somewhere. There are few rally killers as pathetic as a 3 ball and one strike pop-up. A lazy groundout on the first pitch is almost as bad.

In college baseball I believe that the game is by far dictated by the scholarship limitations. This changes the game so that the weakness of most clubs is lack of pitching depth. Thus to get into the bull pen as deep as possible you should let the pitcher work for every out and throw as many pitches as possible. This is very opposite of the A&M strategy.

trust me that would take more than just hours of research....it takes me a heckuva long time to find pitch counts for games....

Not working the count was something that I def. noticed during the Texas St. game....I made a note of that on my scorecard...."Patton worked count for BB in 4th, but Baldwin was first to really work the count working it full and seeing 9 pitches before hitting a single"

Or you could look at Texas who takes lots of pitches when batting and look at the number of times they strike out. Once you notice their batting average and strike out totals, you notice they win because of pitching not hitting.

We are normally a better hitting team than most, you do not want to take as many pitches because if he is throwing strikes than you are always behind in the count.

Teams that do not hit well do the opposite.

actually, in the local baseball world, MJ's teams are often known for taking the first strike, something that has been a big source of arguments since the dawn of human history

Our best hitting teams tended to jump on pitches early in the count. It's a philosophical choice--are you looking to make the pitcher throw a lot of pitches and take walks, or are you looking for a pitch to hit? The best pitches to hit are usually early in the count or when the hitter is up 3-0 or 3-1. If you take a bunch of pitches, and the guy is throwing strike, you pass up the most hittable pitches he will throw because he won't get behind 3-0 or 3-1 very often.

When guys are swingning early in the count, and not making good contact, that tells you either they were fooled or just aren't swingning the bats well.

I'm not a big fan of swinging on the first pitch, but thank God Mav did today.

Like I've said a dozen times, if you're going to swing at the first pitch, you'd better have something to drive. Mavroulis did just that.
