A lifetime contract is as huge a win for Tadlock as it is a giant gamble for TT.

I mean....you can stay blind to the fact that you had to give an alumnus a lifetime contract just to keep him around.

Tech was wise to do so, and moreover fortunate it's in a sport they could not be outspent. A&M money whipped Fisher with a decade long deal worth $2 million more per annum than FSU was willing to pay, notwithstanding JF winning a national championship with the Seminoles.

Tech should be counting its lucky stars that it managed to stave off another flagship school from absconding with its premier coaching talent.

UT got Beard because he was a Longhorn alum and because like it or not UT is the highest profile school in the state by a mile. And they continue to be highest profile no matter how mediocre they are athletically just because they have a strong brand.

A&M doesn't have UT's poaching power. It's a great school and has lots of money, but it's in a conference it doesn't win and isn't dominant in and it doesn't have the name recognition or cachet that UT does. That's just a fact whether anyone likes it or not. And Tadlock was never going to leave for A&M because he's got the best job he could have for him -- it's his alma mater, he's highly paid, and he's built a perennial Top 10 program that reloads instead of rebuilding. This might be their worst team in five years and they're still a good bet to be in the CWS.

People can say he wanted to come here but but but, but it isn't the truth. If he seriously wanted to head to A&M or anywhere else where he thought he'd get more attention or be able to field better teams he'd go. No one who wants a better situation is going to turn down that situation for a lifetime contract to a place they intend to leave. And he's already turned down UT once.

The type baseball recruits needed to win it all will come to Lubbock, I doubt Beard could get type of player to come to Lubbock

You sort of contradict yourself: Is it that A&M lacks "UT's poaching power," or is it that the pull of your alma mater is really strong? If you cite that as the reason that the Tech job is the best job for Tadlock, then it's only consistent to cite that as the reason that Beard left Lubbock, not because the sip job has some incomparable magnetic attraction.

A completely absurd take that's about 30 years out of date.

It t.u. had this supposedly great poaching power they wouldn't have **** the bed on football hires where they've got a lot of money to burn.

Tadlock was a serious candidate which is why Hocutt was forced to give him this huge contract. It's part of the coaching search game.

They were literally 1 point from winning the national title.

Typical Aggie poster on this board. Be glad there is no requirement to actually know something about what one posts about. Tech was up 3 points with less than 20 seconds to go in the National Championship game. Lost in overtime.
Y'all even play fb anymore?

Strive for honor tortilla thrower.

And fwiw, we do not have to give lifetime contracts to get coaches to stay.

Tech has no "giant" gambles. They are tech. And they define irrelevant.
