Robert Alexander Childress is the head baseball coach of the Texas A&M Aggies Baseball Team since 2006.
15 years and still here? Why?

Because he needs 5 more years to tie Johnson's futility.MarathonAg12 said:

Would your opinion of RC be one iota better with everything else being exactly the same except that the Ags won a game in one of its two trips to Omaha during his tenure?GEA89 said:Rule#2 said:

Year 16 and has yet to win a game in Omaha. Not sure we define "good at his job' the same
Saw this exact same argument on this board with Sumlin back in the Spring of 2013.Leander - Ag said:

Just looking at what's out there if we don't retain Rob. And agree with your earlier post. Just happy to be playing baseball.jkag89 said:
Point you are trying to make with this link?
Mississippi St. threw all kinds of money at Schoss and although he was tempted in the long run he stayed in Fort Worth.LSCSN said:

Are A&M fans (and big-money donors) going to be happy with parting ways with Childress...a coach who had never been a head coach before but went to a regional every year...and replacing him with a assistant who has never been a head coach before? Is that really an upgrade? Seems like the risk would outweigh the reward.

And therein lies the rub. It is highly unlikely we can money-whip an established, championship caliber coach to come to A&M. Not because we don't have the resources to do it and not because it wouldn't be a great opportunity, but just because that sort of thing doesn't really happen in college baseball. The A-Level coaches establish themselves as a winner and they stay where they are...just the nature of the game.

This is just tough because coaches really don't make big moves in college baseball. Baylor's coach came from Pepperdine, Tech's coach came from Oregon State, LSU's coach came from Notre Dame...so it can certainly happen. But if we're going to poach a head coach, who do we get?
This guy is interesting, but I have no idea if he'd leave the west coast.
Andrew Checketts - UCSB
Or this guy...
Dan Heefner - DBU
This guy might not be awful.
Randy Mazey - WVU
Former assistant at LSU, Vandy, and Ole Miss, so he knows the SEC
Cliff Godwin - ECU
