Finally a basehit from Pennington.. surprisingly he was patient and let the count run to 2-2 before stroking the ball he wanted.. 1 on with 1 out..
Pennington steals second on a 3-0 count. Patton walks to put runners on first and second with 1 out.

We're patient at the plate in the 6th inning and we've pushed across a run. Hmmmm...

You were right on with that Luke.. we were giving him some gifts but not letting him get wild. He was getting behind every batter this inning that was patient.
UH brings in a kid with a supposedly wicked hook. He's pitched in 10 out of their 15 games.

ideally you want 6 pitches per hitter. if you get that count, you're doing great.
20-pitch innings are great for you. even if the pitcher doesn't give up runs, he's at 10 pitches in the 5th inning, so you'll be in their bullpen early.

We were a few feet from two bombs that inning. Would have blown the game open. At least we chased the starter and got the lead back.

Why are you going to beat it to death? It's common sense that being patient at the plate is good baseball, being impatient leads to quick outs.

Your Theory sounds good, but only two batters were out on the first strike in the 3-5 innings. The others had at least one strike on them already. Three of them had an 0-1 count, when they got out.
Marlatt is getting behind the hitters who have gotten on base this inning. Fly ball to shallow left for a base hit a run scores on the hit and run. Runner moves to second on the throw. 4-3, with runners on 2nd and 3rd. 1 out.

And also, its not just "plain common sense" or whatever...just for the record. It depends on the pitcher I would think. Sometimes its better to swing early.
If we were striking out looking every time you all would be saying....QUIT LOOKING AT THE FIRST TWO PITCHES.
