Well, it was a beautiful day at Robinson Stadium and the Ags played well. JMo was solid, Coby hit great, and a couple of UCLA balks added to the fun. Something those of you who were listening might not have caught: on Ruggiono's double that drove in two runs, the UCLA outfielder almost made a great catch, he had it in his glove but it popped out when he hit the ground. He came up holding his glove in the air thinking he had it. That was a big turning point in the momentum.

I would bet we had 150 fans there - and after a while (the 4th Inning?) they started some good heckling. UCLA fan seemed shocked that we brought so many fans and that we were so adept at heckling. A few UCLA fans tried to heckle back but they were rookies. Was wondering if the chants of the pitchers name could be heard over the broadcast? In the ninth, everyone was hitting their rings on the aluminum bleachers - certainly y'all heard that....

On another heckling note, before the game Friday (right before the poor guy basically sang the Star Spangled Banner backwards), the annoucer stated that verbal abuse, heckling, etc. to the opposing team, players, and fans would not be tolerated - or something to that effect. I don't think we would ever go that far at Olsen. Regardless, the announcement wasn't made on Saturday and I started feeling sorry for UCLA fan, we were louder, almost seemed like we had more fans, and some of our folks were expert hecklers (don't know how I feel about doing that at an opposing field).

Finally, a local A&M club put on a barbeque for the fans and players after the game. It was good to see Ags come together and celebrate in SoCal. All in all, it was a great day, UCLA fans were nice to talk to, and the Ags evened up the series. Let's go win the series today, Ags!!!!

good post. I'm glad to hear that our boys are getting some support on the road. I bet those UCLA fans are still tryin to figure out where all the aggies came from!

yeah i could hear yall real well from about the 4th inning on it seemed, almost seemed like Olsen for a little bit...

one thing that kept getting me was when a loud cheer would come up i would always think it was something bad happening against us but more oftan than not it was a good thing...

Saw on AggieAthletics.com that there were only 550 fans at the game on saturday. Is that true? Wow, pathetic.

They've drawn 923 fans total for the first two games...I'd wager that we've formed at least 25% of that.

I also heard someone lead a yell during a pitching change.

Yeah I have to agree with the earlier post that the cheering when A&M did something good was louder than when UCLA did something good. Definitely disconcerting for an away game.

Saw most of Saturday's game (sat on both sides) and the last 3 or 4 inings of Sunday's game.

Aggie fans seemed to make up at least 1/3 of the attendance on both days, and another 1/3 were just there to watch a game and didn't seem to follow either team. To top it off, more than 1/2 of the UCLA fans seemed to be player familes & friends.

Talked to a few UCLA player parents who were very nice. One couple went to College Station last year for the tournament and talked about what a great time they had. Another parent had played at UCLA in the '70s and was talking about how he didn't have such a nice facility to play in as they do now (yikes!).

Finally, I was very impressed by the Aggie players I met. I took my family to the post-Saturday game cook-out, and my two little boys are still talking about the guys talking to them and playing catch with them.

Good Bull, Barney. I was at Sunday's game and I talked to a couple of the A&M parents, as well as a couple of people working in the UCLA Athletic Department. On the whole it was a good and relaxed atmosphere, as most college baseball is outside of the Big 12 and SEC (where it tends to be a little more competitive - not saying that's bad)

Agree with the sentiments - 1/3 A&M, 1/3 UCLA, 1/3 Little League Parents. The facilities at UCLA are not that great, but they have a lot of potential. It is a beautiful area, and a great setting; I just think that UCLA does not give enough money to the baseball program.

Captain, it certainly is a relaxed atmosphere. I met my work associate (who is the most arrogant UCLA fanatic that I know) at the Saturday game, and he sat there and reviewed reports for work the whole game. They had a total of 1 or 2 hecklers, who came up with your typical "cowboys", "yee haw", "go back to Texas" fare.

I agree that the stadium is in a good setting and has potential. It just needs a lot of sprucing up and general renovation. However, the fact that the stadium is a little over a mile away and across a freeway from their campus seems to kill any interest in the team from their student body.
