Checked into the Longhorn Network, a station dedicated to only showing sip sports. Oddly, I can't find a game replay all day today. Schedule too full with other compelling live (meaning replayed) sports.

Went back through this thread this am and it was so enjoyable.

Can someone please explain to me the fascination of wanting to play old Big 12 schools? Seems almost every thread has posts about this and I do not get it.

Main point I would make is I'd prefer to only have 1 cupcake weekend series and I hate playing Texas midweek. Play Texas on the weekend if you are going to play them. As for playing tech or TCU, I dont feel strongly there. Just don't love playing multiple cupcake home series to start the season.

So Gonzaga's rpi is 38. One behind Ole Miss and much better than Baylor or Tcu. And they have gone to the tourney 2 of the last three years. I do not think they are a "cupcake" and I really think some of y'all are tied into old rivalries and "names". After the way we were treated by the Big 12 when we left, I would prefer not to play them in anything. Remember the sips told the schools you want to play not to play us to purposefully hurt us until they realized it was hurting them. I do not get it as your premise is not logical. And why in the world would we want to give the sips a weekend series every year? Makes zero sense.

It is also a business and I am not whining. Don't know about you but when somebody craps on me in my business, I do not deal with them again.

And at least your reasoning I can understand. But rpis are facts so this whole argument about "cupcakes" is silly.

To be fair, the business end of the business is supposed to be left to the people in charge of the business... because its their business.

As a fan, our fandom is simply supposed to be a fan... and being a fan has nothing to do with being rational. Thus, its irrationally rational for a fan to want to beat the snot out of another fan by having the team the fan is a fan of beat the team the other fan is a fan of in order to make the other fan question his fan-hood. This all makes sense.

So in addition to Childress needing to better learn his bullpen

I don't get this post....Childress' pitching staff had the better starter for the first 6 innings.

Jozwiak had been a reliable presence out of the bullpen and came into today's game with a 2.59 ERA. He was leaving things up and got jumped quick.

Childress then manages the bullpen through match-ups with Weber, Miller and Kalich (with people complaining all the way on the thread about his choices)....but those choices gave up one hit and no earned runs over the final 2.2 innings of the game. Meanwhile, the Aggies tacked on late against the pitchers Price tabbed to finish the game.

That seems like a pretty decently managed game to me. Pushed the right button with Saenz and everything beyond Jozwiak's rough outing.

The Team ERA is 2nd in SEC only games, and lowest overall in the conference. They've given up the fewest earned runs, 2nd fewest runs, 3rd lowest BAA, 2nd fewest walks, and have the highest amount of strike outs. Weber, Miller, Jozwiak, Roa, Saenz, Menefee, Weber and Kalich have all been used often and effectively out of the bullpen...which is a credit to them, and I would think a credit to the pitching coach. What exactly are they supposed to be learning or figuring out, how to never give up any runs ever?

Childress led an injury riddled team into rival territory and beat #7 on the road, with a good performance from the starter, most of the bullpen and bats and in the past month has taken 2 out of 3 from the #1 team in the country and swept a conference opponent on the road...and we still get a post about "hope this guy gets around to coaching".

Quote:

Watson at first base for six weeks? I guess he can only get better

He had 12 official ABs before today's game and is playing because of the potential the coaches have seen during practice. I'm sure his best days on the field are in front of him, but I'd also assume they will playing a number of guys in the lineup to see who sticks.

Lance, remember, winning isn't the most important issue.

Winning the way I want you to win is the most important. Forgot to insert the emogi---damn!

Being a fan shouldn't stop someone from having the awareness to put aside their selfish desires and instead want what is best for A&M.
And what's best for A&M is to stay away from caustic business relationships, even in sports.

Regionals are still regional in a geographic sense, so that's quite possible. But, since the first 16 team are now seeded, which creates the super regional matchup, it would be a real statistical longshot for us to be paired with the sips (as likely as any other team in the country, in theory) for a super.

I was thinking they are placed in the regional we are paired with as a 2 seed and they win it.

That could happen, but, just as an example, in yesterday's D1baseball.com projected bracket, we were the 14 seed, which paired us with Oregon State (3 seed). I don't see the sips getting sent to Corvalis (in the projection in question, they were the 12 seed, but I think they've lost momentum and will not finish strong enough to host).

RPIs are facts and as has been covered way too many times on this board, A&M could usually use some nonconnference RPI help.

You want to host a super regional this year? Yeah, me too.

All but one of the 9 teams in front of us in the RPI has a non conference SoS at least 26 places better than us.

If we win in the SEC we host a super, if we don't we don't. It really is that simple when you play in a conference with the rpis the SEC has. We will agree to disagree as we always do on this.

Unless I see the Tv contract from FS1 I can not say that, however, I feel pretty confident our new AD will not give the sips an inch.

And edited to add that I am not against playing a better OOC schedule. But I am in favor of not losing a home series at Olsen every other year when we really do not need to do that if we win in the SEC. Whatever the season ticket holders want to do is fine by me.

It's never been that simple. A&M won 16 SEC games in 2017 and didn't host a regional.

The premise has always been A&M could do some things to not force it to chase people in April and May.

I get it. There is a fear that it somehow cracks the SEC prestige to suggest we ought to do some stuff in the non conference. It's not what would happen, but I know why A&M say some of the things they do.

The TV situation is it is covered by the Big 12 contract when we play in Austin and it's covered by the SEC contract when it's played in College Station. It's college sports as normal and there isn't anything nefarious going on there.

The entire SEC West except A&M is about to play them in football. Everything will be fine and the SEC will still be the SEC.

The caustic relationship was the intra-conference relationship.

How do you know that the "caustic relationship" was strictly intra conference? You are staying your opinion as fact and unless you have dealt with them I think that is naive. And remember AFTER we left they told the othe Big 12 schools not to schedule us in an attempt to hurt us. And it really is that simple, win in the SEC(and having a 16-14 record is not really winning imho) and you achieve all your objectives. At the end of the year, our rpi will be fine if we win in the SEC.

Do you care what the season ticket holders want? I do and I think the majority of them would prefer not losing games at Olsen.

I am a season ticket holder. I would rather play more good opponents and less cupcakes in the non-conference weekends. If I am going to make the trip, get a hotel, etc, I'd rather watch us play Texas than UIC. Same goes for I'd rather watch us play NC State or Virginia or Stanford or Oregon State than UIC. I get the need for some cupcakes. I'd prefer one weekend series against cupcakes and then stack the midweek with cupcakes for all I care. Midweek games are not nearly as important as weekend games in my opinion, particularly for season ticket holders (given most don't show up for midweek games).
