Baseball pants...what's in style

Seems the knee high or knicker style are coming in style on all levels. Yes, Ags (Childress) have always done it, but I'm talking about other teams at all levels.

My kid is 7 and I like knee length, wife wants him to match the team. I say knee length equals scrappy and that's what he is.

What does Texags and all its infinite wisdom say?

I like them because they are unmistakably a baseball uniform. Full-length pants look too generic, could be any sport.

I agree

I also imagine strike zone is potentially defined and possibly the low strike is not called?

Just a thought.

I'm most curious what style is for older kids.

Also, you can't show off your socks if your pants are at your ankles.

This confuses me. Shorts are worn for basketball and soccer, and football pants stop at the knees. Golf and maybe horseback riding?

What does he want to wear? Let him choose. Long pants were most popular when my son was younger and that was just 10 years ago. He chose the knicker style even though he would be odd. Was the only one on most of his teams and not many in his leagues until now as they are coming back. Hunter Pence really helped him feel more confident about his choice.

PS: Mizuno knickers / pants are not durable in the knees. Easton are better. Champro are the most durable.

Knee-high is the only way to go. A good, sharp look that adds some color to the uniform.

Long pants look like pajamas.

Me too. At the very least a team should decide whether up or down. When they're mixed it looks bad.

Whatever it is, be unified. It's a TEAM... it's a UNIFORM. I've noticed the Ags are good at this. Looks bad to me when teams come in and they're all wearing different styles. IMO

If you're wearing long pants, at least make sure they're not those ba-ggy abominations. That pitcher #26 for ACU looked sooooooo bad. Terrible

Knee high with stirrups is the best look in sports and I hope we never go away from it

Like most have said above, if you go pants down, they can't be ba-ggy. Nike does a great job with this. Vandy is a good example.

Just curious as to what other sport wears a full length pant that could be confused with baseball pants.

My favorite are the stirrups with white stripes on the colored part of the sock

I love stirrups and knickers, but as my son got older, he wanted to wear the long ones. I wish he still liked the stirrups.

I don't like the long b**** looking crap, but then again, I hate flat billed hats that aren't actually designed to fit anyone's head well.

Ok then, now you can tell how old I am, move along.

Also, please note, I am full on in favor of letting your kid pick. (Even when they want to wear the ugly baggie ones, like my son currently does. It's his sport, so let him enjoy it!)

When I was in high school (04-07) long pants were all the rage. I was proud to wear mine knee high just like my childhood hero, Chipper Jones. Even taught myself to switch hit.

He is 7 years old and plays on a TEAM. It is a TEAM sport. The TEAM is apparently wearing their pants the same way except for apparently one prima donna,

This will end well.

I get the Team concept, but looking at every single major league team, they have a mix. Most colleges do as well. A&M is mandated by Childress to wear knickers.

- Nobody has the same shoes
- A lot of basketball players wear T-shirt under jersey, a lot don't.
- different color gloves
- some basketball players have b**** shorts, some don't...especially the last couple years.
- some players wear wristbands, some don't
- some players wear Under Armour when it's cold, some don't.

7 year old parents buy whatever is cheapest in the store or was past down. Most of the time it's the long pants.

Wearing your pants up around the knee with just plain socks that are common in little league looks pretty awful IMO. I didn't start doing it until I was give stirrups for the first time in HS ball.

Also from a practical perspective, sanitaries are thinner and a lot cooler in the Texas heat.

We watch a ton of Aggie baseball and they love the knickers.

I always had my summer HS team wear knee-high pants so that umpires would have another point of reference for the strike zone.
