You guys stress too much.

I root for the SEC neither because I think it helps our recruiting nor because it gives us coattails to ride. I just love the SEC. It's filled with tradition and rabid fans I'm glad we get to be a part of. I enjoy not traveling to Lawrence, Manhattan or Lubbock for road series in April and no longer being bitterly disgusted with nearly every fan base with which we have to deal throughout the year. I like getting to see future top-15 picks every Friday night, great venues across the league and actual baseball tailgating.

I spent my adolescence in South Carolina and Georgia, so ymmv. But while we're salty about how the season ended, we should remember we left a crappy Frankenstein conference for a league of champions, which takes care of ALL its schools, for a reason. And I'll never be ashamed of that regardless of what some sip trolls or self-flagellating Ags say.

But I also couldn't bring myself to root for Arkansas, so gig 'em State.

I don't think the typical internet whiner is stressing. I think it's unjustified whining about things they cannot change nor have any inflection. Most just need a midol and a break from posting sad drivel.

SEC dominance means we can sell that if you want to play with the big boys and stay in Texas we are your only choice.

It does? Since we've been in the SEC, t.u. and tech have been to the CWS now a combined 5 times. We've been once. During that time period, the SEC has won the CWS championship twice and had another team in the final series 3 times. During that time, only the Pac12 had more than one team either win the title or finish as a runner up. Thus, in this period, the SEC was fairly dominant.

So, the recent SEC's dominance hasn't done us one damn bit of good compared to t.u. and tech, especially with our 2 and out last year. Another Texas team prevented us from going the 2 previous years. I'd say we better tap the brakes on saying we're among the big boys and the other 3 schools aren't.

I wish people would quit using this tired and ridiculous argument that somehow conference strength will always make us better. I've shown that, at least in this sample, it hasn't. Kids go to programs to 1) play and 2) play for a coach they like. Conference affiliation may factor in somewhere but it isn't going to trump either one of those in a significant way -- at least not for enough recruits for us to get better.
Think how bad it will be for us if a Big XII team wins.

No stress here. In fact your choices on who to root for are far deeper than mine.

College baseball is not like college football. Do conferences mean anything to college baseball recruiting? In the past 20 years, Cal State Fullerton, Rice, Fresno State and Coastal Carolina have all won national titles. Unlike SEC football, there is not a whole lot of pageantry to sell in playing any assortment of college baseball teams. Are most college baseball recruits even aware who the big boys are?
I can say unequivocally yes! And the SEC is the gold standard right now.

Hilarious (and embarrassing because we share undergraduate degree institutions) the people arguing that the SEC isn't an advantage because we haven't fully capitalized on it. The logic is so bad, its hard to imagine the author as anything but a hayseed moron.

If your argument is that conference affiliation is not the only factor congratulations

It isn't just that its not the only factor, but a small one if it exists at all. My point, that you seemed to have missed, was not only that we haven't taken advantage of it -- to the extent it exists -- but that tech and t.u. have overcome it.

Even if we can correct our own mediocre factors you mentioned that WE control, we can't do anything about how the other schools react. If we get better coaching and player development -- from this staff or another one -- we won't have to worry about this issue.

But here's the thing: a Big 12 school winning THIS YEAR won't mean much, if anything. By this fall, most HS kids won't even remember who won the CWS. Even if they knew in the first place. You can't extrapolate YOUR knowledge of conference affiliation and strength onto 18 year old kids, many of whom have more interest in their draft status than they do in their college choice.

I am pulling for:
Arkansas
Miss State
Florida
Oregon State

In that order. As of today. Might flip the 1st 3 around some
This is just dumb. When Arkansas is playing Texas you pull for a meteor strike.
