All Arky has to do is plunk Clemons his 1st time up and he will be useless for the rest of the trip to Omaha .

At least there is a great chance we get a team into the final series. SEC SEC SEC! That will shut down the BDF schools.

The SEC teams better win. They're the higher seeds.

Think at this stage, any team can get hot and win it all (a la Coastal Carolina). Think Tech has a better chance than Texas in their pod because of experience and depth.

Until Florida is dethroned, I like their chances to meet either Miss St or OregonSt.

Would love another all SEC final.

I am pulling for:
Arkansas
Miss State
Florida
Oregon State

In that order. As of today. Might flip the 1st 3 around some

It'd kill my bracket but Arky v. State for an all SEC west final would be a great middle finger to the committee.

Think it will be Arky vs. OSU. Both are the most complete teams on their side of the bracket.

That said, any team can get hot, that's why i love baseball.

Why would you even include Oregon state as one of the teams you're pulling for? SEC should always pull for SEC no matter what!

All 3 SEC teams are listed above Oregon State as the preferred winners. What's wrong with that?

Give me tech before any SEC teams. I see no value in hoisting the SEC flag anymore.

SEC dominance means we can sell that if you want to play with the big boys and stay in Texas we are your only choice. If the Big XII somehow established itself as an equivalent option our advantage goes poof. I take no pride in other SEC schools doing well but it does serve us strategically.

(Tech or even tu winning wouldn't be enough to make the conferences equivalent but anything that closes the gap is bad.)

Two teams full of kids who chose to stay in Texas are playing the big boys the next couple of weeks. That's a mighty big skirt you're trying to hide behind.

So long as they get annihilated we can weather this storm. But no, the situation is not ideal.

This isn't football, there is only a small amount of scholarship money to be thrown around in college baseball, we couldn't really recruit that much better than the other TX schools based on economics.

Many other programs are creative in addressing money and baseball. Our admin will not play the games though.

Yeah tu and tech players all get "signing bonuses" huh?? It's always the bagmen from other schools that make us field a ****ty team..

The schools from states that have paid in-state tuition and private schools sure... But don't try to act like Texas public schools are taking advantage of anything A&M isn't.

It does? Since we've been in the SEC, t.u. and tech have been to the CWS now a combined 5 times. We've been once. During that time period, the SEC has won the CWS championship twice and had another team in the final series 3 times. During that time, only the Pac12 had more than one team either win the title or finish as a runner up. Thus, in this period, the SEC was fairly dominant.

So, the recent SEC's dominance hasn't done us one damn bit of good compared to t.u. and tech, especially with our 2 and out last year. Another Texas team prevented us from going the 2 previous years. I'd say we better tap the brakes on saying we're among the big boys and the other 3 schools aren't.

I wish people would quit using this tired and ridiculous argument that somehow conference strength will always make us better. I've shown that, at least in this sample, it hasn't. Kids go to programs to 1) play and 2) play for a coach they like. Conference affiliation may factor in somewhere but it isn't going to trump either one of those in a significant way -- at least not for enough recruits for us to get better.

If your argument is that conference affiliation is not the only factor congratulations, you win. Also, I will readily admit we haven't utilized any advantage it brings effectively in baseball. (We have much moreso in football.) It still is a significant potential advantage. It won't overcome mediocre coaching and player development.

Either normalize it for Texas teams...

t.u. & TTU = 5 / 2 = 2.5 to our 1

Or go by conference...

How many SEC births v. Big 12 since we switched?

Hell. Just look at the SEC West.

I'm just curious if there is another fanbase in the country that rides the coattails and enjoys conference opponents success as much as we do.

Spare me the " better the SEC does the better it is for us".

Top recruits want to play for championships... They don't want to come and be a doormat in any conference.

I'm just curious if you understand what a doormat is. We are not that.

College baseball is not like college football. Do conferences mean anything to college baseball recruiting? In the past 20 years, Cal State Fullerton, Rice, Fresno State and Coastal Carolina have all won national titles. Unlike SEC football, there is not a whole lot of pageantry to sell in playing any assortment of college baseball teams. Are most college baseball recruits even aware who the big boys are?

I think college baseball recruiting all comes down to coaching. I do think playing better competition, like SEC competition, can certainly help during the postseason in both seeding and competing. However, I am not sure it matters much for baseball recruiting. I think coaching is the overwhelming factor, followed by other normal stuff like location, academics, family ties, etc. I am just not sure recruits care about conferences in this sport which is why Rice and Sun Belt teams can compete with the "big boys" in recruiting and subsequently the CWS. Any school in any conference in this sport can win with the right coach. Conference advantages seem the least profound in baseball.
El Agglos

As a follow up to the above, RC has gone to the CWS in both the Big 12 and the SEC. He has won the conference tournament in both conferences. He has gone to three super regionals in both conferences. He has actually done about the same in both. I think A&M Baseball should be able to recruit well enough to win a national title in any conference if Rice can. I think the question is "what is RC's individual ceiling?"
El Agglos

Arkansas, tu or tech winning would be bad for us as it would give coaches in close proximity that we have to recruit against a national title. I do not think any other teams winning would affect us at all in recruiting. Does tech winning help baylor or kansas recruiting? I doubt it. However, while an SEC team winning will probably not affect our recruiting, it is always good for the conference as a whole. So go bulldogs and gators!

Weren't we the 11th place SEC team this year?
Most Ags have blinders on when it comes to our athletic success and many believe we are better than we actually are.
In a recruits eyes.. We are closer to a doormat than a championship contender.
