Birmingham is the SEC headquarters. Hoover is ~10 miles south of Birmingham.
It is also centrally located between the various schools.

Plus the benefit to Auburn and Alabama is lessened somewhat since they don't win it very often (at least recently). Just imagine how much more insufferable LSU fans would be if they held the tournament in the Zephyrs Baby Cakes stadium in New Orleans.
I don't necessarily disagree, but I do wish they'd rotate it a bit. There are plenty of worthwhile venues in the SEC footprint. Even plenty that would still meet some reasonable consideration of centrally located.

I wouldn't expect them to host it in SugarLand or anything but I think rotating it would be better. Then again, maybe the SEC players feel like "Hoover" has some sort of "Omaha-lite" type reputation.
