The Baylor and Ag pitchers were all having a real hard time planting their front foot without slipping. Looked like it bothered Hill's control more than anyone else. I really hate turf on the mound.
It wouldn't be Cougar High if they didn't have the playing surface of choice...for high schools.aggie1906 said:
I can understand having turf (field, not the bump) for climates that won't have grass a lot of the season, but Houston ain't one of them. It's cheap and cheap looking.

There's little doubt it is by design to provide a slight advantage to the home team (cougar hi) requiring visiting pitchers to learn to adjust to the completely different conditions. It should be disallowed by the NCAA!
Most people have a lot of problems with turf to replace grass.CapCityAg89 said:

Money. UH doesn't have an infield tarp, just one to cover the mound. Virtually no grounds crew needed. No grass to water, no sprinkler system to maintain.CapCityAg89 said:
I have no problems with turf to replace grass. The maintenance savings have to be huge - like enable a program huge. But I fail to see any rationale for replacing dirt with turf. That just seems simplistic.

They absolutely could turn it down, or better yet, redirect it to a proper use. Don't buy such "excuses". That's just lazy incompetence at work on the part of the UH AD.Mr.Ackar07 said:
Supposedly they had a donor come in and offer to pay for the entire original turf field which UH couldn't turn down which is why they switched from a grass field. The mound is a different story I would presume.
Actually, it's not. A turf field costs $1 million and lasts about ten years. $100,000 a year buys a lot of water, fertilizer and grass mowing.CapCityAg89 said:

If you don't have the financial or intellectual means to grow grass and rake dirt, you shouldn't be hosting a regional.
