Talked to a scout after the game tonight. Mengden was hitting 91-94 and more on the upper end he said.

Mengden was throwing gas out there. Completely overwhelmed the SFA hitters. Bullpen as a whole has been great so far this year.

Nice. The one hit he gave up to UIC, the guy just kinda stuck is bat out there, swinging way early, and got lucky with a hit. Similar to the HR Stilson gave up against Washington State 2 years ago. Other than that, he's dominated hitters.

Wow. Thats good velocity. I haven't seen that since Whelan was clocked at 95-96 (and currently AAA with the Yanks).

This could be a special pitching staff this year.

Haven't seen that in person, or haven't seen it from any Aggie pitchers recently? There have been numerous Aggie pitchers over the past 4-5 years who threw in the 90s (Stilson, Thebeau, Loux, Wilson, etc).

When Stilson was closing, he was regularly at 97, topping at 98 according to the radar guns of scouts in attendance. When he moved to starter, he paced himself more and settled in around 94 for most of the game... and would hit 96 in later innings. Wacha was hitting 91-93 last year. Not sure about this year.

Mengden needs a tad bit of movement on his fastball. Batters are peppering him. He's given up a few doubles thus far in the season, although the once against UIC was a squirly hit that the batter got lucky with.

John Stilson is on line 1. He'd like to have a word.
