When was the last time we played in a National Championship game in big 3 sports?

Baseball, Football, Basketball. You guys know stuff.

Edit: I do need to make clear that I was thrilled to see (yes I was there) the Ags in Omaha and consider this one hell of a success. Just to be in the running is great for our program. I just started thinking about how hard it is to make it to a championship game. Then that led me to the "when was the last time we were there" thoughts. Then that led to the "I may be dead before we get there again" thoughts.

Well, technically WBB is "bigger" then baseball. So we have won a title in one of the big 3 this year.

When was the last time we even won a game in the CWS?

1993 vs. Kansas. That's weird. Same numbers as 1939.

I heard the announcers say we have won 1 since 1951.

Gotta get there before you can win one. We were there, had our chance, better than most years pre-Childress, so hope for the same chance next year.

Certain demographics love women's basketball.

Men prefer college baseball.

Roscoe-

Yes. Sorry. I misread the post. I thought he said that the comment was we haven't won 1 during that time.

My bad.

Good God...1964 and not again until 1993 for our next appearance. With all the baseball talent in this state, that is ridiculous. Seriously, what did our AD do during that stretch?

WBB? is that a joke?

I hear you on the WBB, I was really excited when they won. I guess I just use my "big 3" as the college reflection of the big 3 in the pro's. As a kid I cared about football, basketball and baseball. So is it safe to say that we have not even played in a championship game in "my" big 3 sports since 1939? It's hard to believe that I may die before the Aggies make it to another championship in those sports, but totally possible. I want to throw up.

Really, from a revenue standpoint it is the big 2. Baseball and women's basketball generate about the same amount of revenue.

Nope. That is the way it is.
1. Football
2. Men's Basketball
3. Women's Basketball
4. Baseball

College Baseball does not get the attention it truely deserves most of the season. Hell they only really push to televise the Super and CWS. The Regionals may make it on the U, but not with national exposure of any kind. The regular season is way too hit and miss. SEC get on the U, and FOX Sports pouts on some Big 12, but really there is little exposure. At least the SEC Tourney was on the U, but Big 12 Tourney seems to be a failure until the title game, which was relegated to but 900 channel here b/c of MLB.

Women's Basketball has weekly games all year and receives more ad $$$ then college baseball, hence more attention given by networks.

Hopefully that is changing. I think that is the hope with the best of 3 title series in the CWS. It will attract more ad $$$ and also more attention overall...I love college baseball. Would love to see it up there with WBB and Men's even. Doubt it will gett hat high though (as high as Men's BB)...

eATMup: Part of that situation was due to how the tournament was structured. Regional play didn't arrive until 1975 or so. And in the 1970's, Texas and Arkansas ruled the SWC baseball roost. A&M had several good/great teams in there that made the tournament, but didn't make it to Omaha. The number of near misses to Omaha is staggering-to the point that it starts defying the odds.

Our failures at getting to Omaha are similar to FSU's failures in Omaha. In fact, today's game must have brought back memories of the '92 season, when we had Granger on the hill in a winner take all game against Cal...and lost. Sure, '89 hurt. And we all remember losing to MSU in '98, and the 2 Supers at Rice, and the Super at LSU. But the '92 Regional in Gainesville may have been the most painful, after '89.

That 89 team was stacked and should have won it all.

So the only way to get to the CWS was through the conference tourney? Or was there a regional that the tourney champ went to?

Had the 1989 team went on to the CWS and won it, it would have been the best COLLEGE baseball team ever. That team was so sick. I don't recall a team being that dominate before or since then.

I know it's not anywhere near your "big three," but considering the forum, I'm hoping no one has forgotten how recently our softball team was playing in the women's CWS final series
