CWS about every other year. Impressive.

If he were our coach we'd be complaining about he can never win anything important.

Doubt it.

Well, maybe YOU would.

There is no way this fanbase would allow him to be here that long, despite going 50% of the time, w/o a win.
Captain Pablo

Disagree. Then again, any chance we'll ever find out?

I agree. It's disappointing that some Aggie fans hate other Aggie fans so much. They probably should have gone to school elsewhere.

And too many Ags would still be complaining with him as our head coach because he has never won it.

OTOH, 14 CWS appearances with 0 national titles has got to be discouraging.

Going by equal odds (a.k.a. having a 1/8 chance of winning it all for each CWS), there is only a 15.42% chance of never winning one.
Captain Pablo

Check your math. 1/8 chance per try, but 14 tries. Better than 1 to 1 odds of getting one in 14 tries if your odds are 1/8 each time.

But this is sports, not random
chance. Not dice, coin flips, or roulette.

If it was random chance, then yes, 14 tries with 8 to 1 odds statistically should result in at least one hit. 1.75, to be exact.

Oh, you said "never". Thought you said "ever".

I would rather have 5 cws trips and 3 titles in 32 years than 14 trips and no titles.
Captain Pablo
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Well yeah, but over 32 years, I'd rather have 14 trips with no wins than 2 trips and no wins.

+1 I'll take a coach that has been to Omaha 14 times in 32 years in a heartbeat.

Getting to Omaha is like making the final 4 in hoops. It's a total crapshoot after you make it and the best team clearly does not always (or even usually) win. I'd be totally thrilled with 14/32 even with no titles. Heck, even Wayne Graham has "only" gone about once every 3 years (though he does have a title). Going to Omaha even once every 5 years would be a huge step forward for us.

The new bats and better CWS format will probably help to ensure that the best team wins the title more often. But still, matchups are important in the double elimination bracket. A better overall team can easily drop into the loser's bracket on any given day.

After looking at the wins total, it's shocking how efficient USC has been. tu has 6 titles and USC has 13, with a lot fewer wins.

According to wikipedia, USC has 12 national titles. Still, an impressive number.

Of course, the other USC has 1 as well.

What a run 1986, 1987, 1989, 1991, 1992, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, but they've never won it all and only been to the final thrice with 20 appearances.

Guys, those are not troll posts. I promise you that our fan base would have a group of complainers and they would be loud and vocal on Texags if we went to the CWS 14 times in the next 32 years and Childress never won it.

there's some obvious analysis here...FSU's runs to the CWS slowed down considerably once the new regional format was implemented in 1999. Why? Because pitching became more important and not gorilla ball. (See LSU)

FSU (like Oklahoma State back in the day) plays in a bandbox. And that's fine when you are playing at home with a heavy offensive minded team. But when the 'noles have to go on the road to Omaha or other regional sites (with bigger ballparks) the all-offense-not-much-pitching approach doesn't work as well.
