Krey Bratsen is still on the board after 30 rounds.

I think this pretty much guarantees you will see Bratsen in an A&M uniform next year

How long does it take before we know who signs and who does not? Sorry, the MLB Draft is one of the few completely foreign things to me in major American sports.

Each player has until ~August 15 to sign a pro contract.

I agree. The thing that will seal the deal is if a team that does not traditionally break the bank for late round draft picks selects him tomorrow.

Even though I don't think it will matter, I would rather him not be drafted by the Red Sox, Yankees, Angels, or a similar team with deep pockets.

Thanks Option. That's a pretty killer wait though. Is there ANY chance Perkins shows up on campus??

Clendenin doesnt think so... It depends on whether or not the Red Sox sign the guys they drafted in front of Perkins, and the amount of money they sign for. Boston has deep pockets along with the fact that they have a solid approach to their player development system. I havent seen Perkins play, but if he is as good as advertised, he could step in and play right away in College Station.

I'd like to think that he will be on campus this fall, but I dont see it.

Although its never a good thing to have a recruit drafted by the BoSox, one thing working in the Aggies' favor is that Boston picked 4 of BA's top 28 prospects, so they have lots of guys who could be looking for big money. Another of their picks (I forget which round) reportedly wants almost 2 million to sign. However, all 4 of those top 28 prospects are college guys, and one of them has supposedly already agreed to a slot deal (890k) so it will be interesting to see how many of those bonuses actually come out over slot.

Would think anyone picked after round 7 would return if they have any years left. I guess it depends on who drafted them, and the money on the table, but how much would a 7 or later rounder get?

Do they get their money all up front or is it paid out in increments?

A couple of years ago one of my friends was drafted in the 3rd rd. His bonus was like 375k He got half 30 days after he signed, and the other half the following feb. I'm not sure if thats how they all work or not.

from an IRS standpoint that would be the preferred method (half now, the other half next year)

Sorry if this was already posted in another thread, I didn't see anything:

quote:
Sixth-round pick Kendrick Perkins of the Red Sox will forgo his Texas A&M; commitment and sign with the Red Sox in the next few days.

If true, I'll be interested to see what he signs for (and how much the Sox spend on this draft).
