thanks guys i appreciate it. i know i stand little chance, but it has been a dream of mine to at least try. if i dont i will regret it for the rest of my life. even though i know i probably wont make it, if i dont try i will always wonder.
If the varsity program doesn't look like an option, there is a club program at A&M. I think this is a cool option for some kids who are pretty good HS school ball players that could have played Div II or III ball, but wanted to be Aggies. I think some of them may have even been drafted.
It was a long time ago, but I had one friend wallk on to the football team and the other talk to the baseball team about walking on (he was a good pitcher). In both cases it was made clear that scholarship players would be given preference.
Can be done, but is difficult.

If you will regret not trying out, then go for it. Unless you were an invited walk on, you will get a thanks but no thanks response from the staff but at least you tried.
I could see a very rare situation where a left handed pitcher or left handed batter with some serious speed might get a decent look. Otherwise, they've pretty much got what you offer. But I'd never discourage anyone from trying.
If you're a decent left hand pitcher in the state of Texas, Childress and staff probably know about you already though. Not too many of those slip through the cracks without some kind of offer from someone.
I think there is nothing wrong with trying to play at each successively higher level and only finally stopping playing when you're finally told you can't play anymore.
It's no fun to just stop because someone here said you have little chance. Make a good baseball guy like Childress tell you you gave it your best shot and it's over.
jc...well put. that is exactly what i am doing. i know the chances of me even getting a bench spot with no chance of playing is low. but ive been playing my whole life and i just have to have a pro like childress tell me i cant make it instead a bunch of people who dont even have the guts to at least try. and if i make it, it will be so much sweeter rubbing it in their faces..lol
Fan- I dont think anyone here is telling you not to give it a shot. I think they are just trying to help you gain a better understanding of the reality of the chances of making the team.
And FWIW, at least two of the posters on this thread played D1 ball.
NEW: thank you so much for that link..that is exactly what i was looking for... im pissed though i think i cracked something in my left wrist..(not my throwing hand)...im gonna have to man up during batting practice..eff.
