The reason the ump blew the call was b/c he was messing around trying to move one of our guys out of the way. Check out the other video on kbtx. He is moving one our guys out of the way right as the play at the plate occurs. He wasn't even focused on the tag, he was completely distracted.

quote: I don't know how he missed that call, it was right in front of him.
Nope.
One of our players was standing right in front of him. He missed the call b/c he was trying to move him out of the way instead of focusing on the play. Again watch the larger video from kbtx.
Also watch the catcher's glove at the end of the video above. You will see on the very last frame the ball pops out. So besides the fact that the tag was made late, he didn't even have the ball in the glove when he made the tag.
That is why it took him so long to turn and make the tag b/c he didn't have the ball secured yet.
Never touches the plate with his left hand. It gets hooked by the catchers leg and comes up over the plate. Pay attention to the plate outline from the beginning and see where his hand ends up. It never touches the plate. It's in the air the entire time. Very close, but the right call.

please don't slow down landman with responses, he's running late to his monthly meeting of the "No, Americans Really Did NOT Land on the Moon" Society.
That cloud of brown stuff (dirt) covering the plate is kicked up by the sliding player's hand .... but by all means don't let the facts get in the way of a good story.
The umpire's job is to get the player out of the way. I grabbed players and threw them out of the way at homeplate plenty of times prior to making calls at home. The umpire blew this in every way.
I don't understand why the ump was so far to the left in the first place. I don't see why Scott Arthur's position should be called into question. Also, Rupp is clearly blocking the plate without having the ball. I really don't understand the call at all.
1. I think he is safe 2. Rupp has the ball before they make contact, now the runner still gets throw him before he can make the tag, but he does have the ball. That is not catcher's interference.
