from his chat today
quote:

The committee would have a tough decision to make with regards to A&M if the season ended today. The Aggies lead the Big 12 standings and have a decent overall record. However, they are just 8-8 against top-50 RPI teams and 12-10 against top-100 RPI teams. That's not regional host worthy, IMO. But on the flip side, they have an RPI of 22, which is host worthy. I'll say if the Aggies take either the OU or Texas series and the DBU series, they'll host. National seed is out of the question, IMO.

Every team we play from here on out is in the Top 100, and only DBU and SHSU are outside the Top 50 (and both are in the 50s). We have plenty of chances to build our resume over the last few weeks.

Here's a possible breakdown of the 16 slots:

4 to the ACC (UNC, GT, Miami, Clemson)
3 to the SEC (LSU, Arkansas, Georgia)
2 to the Big 12 among OU, Texas, A&M
2 to the Big West (Irvine, Fullerton)
1 to Arizona State
1 to Rice
1 to TCU

So that leaves the final 2 slots for:

- the SEC to grab another their 4th (Mississippi or Florida)

- the Big 10 to host as a #2 seed (Minnesota or Ohio State) and probably have an ACC team as their #1 seed

- the Big 12 grabs a 3rd slot (assuming the state of Texas could host 4 regionals)

after thinking about it a little more, I think the SEC is probably going to get the 4th slot. Florida would host and Florida State would fit easily as the #2 seed in Gainesville.

Geography may really hurt the Big 12 this year.

The ACC and SEC are basically locks to have 4 regionals each.

I think TCU might be a good candidate for a road 1 seed at a Big 10 regional. That's a way for the committee to justify four 1 seeds from Texas and give a northern school a host.

let lets see, we have 2 games at texas and 3 at OU.

we probably go 1-4 in those games...and go to a regional

So let's just got beat the hell outta the land thieves and send a message to the selection committee.

I also think we have an edge over TCU when it comes to hosting.

A&M hosted in 2007 with an RPI of 16 and a 14-13 league record.

In 2009...if we went 2-4 against tu/ou but won the other games, we'd have an RPI near 16 and a 15-12 league mark...probably good enough for 3rd in the B12.

However, I believe we'll win at least three games in league...at least 16-11 and a Top 15 RPI...we'll host.

It's about where you are after the season, not on April 27th.

we have to win one of the last 2 series and not get swept in the other. if we do that, we host. that simple

The next four games are critical as are the last two series. All four are not slam dunk wins.

TCU is a tough game.

DBU beat Baylor and TT this year and scored 14 runs against Rice in two games and play the horns close, so they will be tough.

another thing to note about Dallas Baptist...

their top 3 HR/RBI and BA hitters all bat left-handed. (similar to Oklahoma State)

I guarantee they haven't seen left-handed pitching like Raley and Hales

They might not have seen pitching similar to Raley. But, they have seen a carbon copy of Raley pitching. Namely the series against A&M last year. And yes, Raley is pitching better this year than he did last year.

IMO...Big 12 champion + #22 RPI should equal a regional in College Station.

This guy kendall is a joke. A national seed out of the question??? With our win tonight over the Frogs, if we hold on to win the Big XII championship, and take the series v DBU, we are pretty much guaranteed a national seed.

I should update my post from last night

3 for the Big 12 now (OU, Texas, A&M)

and TCU fighting for the last host slot with the Big 10 champ

I've know Kendall for a long time, and i would agree with him. I would think we need to do some serious damage if we are going to be a top 8 seed. We'd need to get over 40+ wins and clean house against the sips and the land thieves. Just winning series isn't going to get it done.

ummm.... if we win the OU and UT series then that will likely make us Big XII regular season champs.

dont see why we shouldnt be mentioned with the national seeds if that were the case (especially with wins over rice, irvine, texas, baylor, ou, etc)

If we win the Big 12 regular season championship outright, win the rest of our non-conference games, and have a solid showing in the Big 12 tournament (2-1 or better) then we will be firmly in the mix for a national seed.
Farmer1906

If all that happens than we ARE a national seed easily. The RPI would be a single digit plus we have a dominating record over top 25 teams.

I respect Kendall, but it is not "out of the question". If we win out from here, wed get a super host. I doubt that happens, but it is certainly not "out of the question"...

Hosting a regional is more important than hosting the super. In the super, we're down to a best of 3 series instead of the possible 4th game scenario of the regional format. So, I like our chances on the road for a super much better than the regional. I'd prefer to host them all and the CWS of course...
